"Some teams think Washington or the Jets could enter the bidding after the draft. The Jets though, might be waiting for Ty Law to reach full health in May before they consider any deal."

I thought the idea was that after the draft, it would be too late. Saban should make a statement saying that if we don't trade Surtain by the draft, we're keeping him.

You guys will need cap space to sign the draft choices. Either trade Surtain or y'all will need to release someone like Booker ($2.9 million salary). Not much left in the way of restructuring deals

I have it from a very credible source that Miami has a little over a million in cap space. We don't need to do anything dramatic to get more space.

But it will take much more to sign the rookies. The proration from the #2 overall will be more than $1 million

How much is Miami's rookie cap allotment? That should tell you right there how much room we need.

I doubt we need more than a million. Trade Zgonina, make a cut or two, or restructure Mare, and we're there.

Yeah, if we trade back a couple times, and get more picks, our rookie pool will have to be bigger.

Not if we cut abunch of dead weight starting with Greg Jermen and ending with Rodney Reed.

Clumpy, I read that if we do keep Surtain, that one way to get by with him is to restructure Zach's and Jason's contracts. Can this really be done?

Yes, but I cannot see Miami doing a simple restructure (i.e. convert salary to bonus) because each player already has huge remaining prorations. Maybe Zach would take a paycut? I would think that someone like Booker would be released or do a simple restructure. Fins have some options but JT and Zach should not be among those options unless they agree on a pay cut, which is highly unlikely
