I see a few free agents on our team in areas we already are short handed. I am wondering what any of you think is the approach we will take to :
A. Strengthen the o-line and d-line
B. Add quality depth to our secondary

We have to add a back up qb...we need to fix our team in the trenches so we can compete at a playoff level (let's face it the o-line has to be solid if we ever want Tannehill to show us what he can do) He shows promise but with his skill set and learning curve he NEEDS solid protection ...he hasn't shown the ability to overcome some of the things all qb's face on any given Sunday...so how do we accomplish that AND ensure we can run the ball effectively?
The d-line hasn't been formidable and we have at least one free agent there with Wake getting older....We have to win in the trenches first IMO in order to be a capable playoff contender. So how would you fix that?

If we can fix the trenches we need a solid group of LB'ers and a secondary that has shown promise but lack of depth and aging players as well as at least one free agent means we have to address that...How would you do it?

We would all love to add play makers at the skill positions and I, for one, have harped on the lack of play makers for awhile now....BUT we may be losing a couple of players we depended on AND we have already seen our depth isn't great (a sizable drop off in talent)

I am not as knowledgeable in the cap area as some of you are so I ask....How would you take this team to the next level? I don't think throwing it all away and starting over is the way to go to the next level next year and many of us believe we are close to a contender....So c'mon future GM's...help me figure this out

We need to add a few solid free agents with no major injury history like we did this year. Every one of them got hurt as they had many times before. Then we need to let go of the dead weight we're carrying and last but not least we need to have a great draft.

Potential losses:
QB: Matt Moore
RB: Daniel Thomas; Knowshon Moreno
TE: Charles Clay
OT: Jason Fox
G: Daryn Colledge
C: Samson Satele
DE: Derrick Shelby
DT: Jared Odrick
OLB: Jason Freeny; Jason Trusnik
ILB: Kelvin Sheppard
S: Louis Delmas; Jimmy Wilson

Potential top 10 free agents:
Ndamukong Suh
Justin Houston
Dez Bryant
Demaryius Thomas
Darrelle Revis
Julius Thomas
Mike Lupati
Demarco Murray
Jason Pierre-Paul
Randall Cobb

I agree with your points. Any solid solutions in your opinion?

Well, it all depends on how much cap space we can create. Getting a good safety to match with Jones plus a corner to match with Grimes in free agency would be a nice start. Getting rid o f Wallace and replacing him with a true #1 WR would help Tannehill. Then on draft day we need a guard, a DT and a playmaking LB.

The only one of those top 10 guys who may come available is Suh...everyone else will most likely remain with their current teams. (and Revis who could hit up another 1 year deal)

I will not even attempt to re-sign any of these FAs, as a matter of fact, I would add some players to that list:
LBs PHILIP WHEELER; DARNEL ELLERBY
CB FINNEGAN
WRs HARTLINE; GIBSON
DT RANDY STARKS
WHO AM I MISSING ? TIME TO BLOW THIS B..TCH UP AND START FRESH.

Better add a kicker to that list.

LOL...well that is 5 players and if you consider the kicker...6
Do you have any idea how you would replace them?

We need linebacker help in the worst way.

So would repairing the linebacker position be the answer to having a contender next year? We have depth and free agency issues in areas that HAVE to be addressed....

The pigeon we had in our 1 game this year was amazing, i would bring him on as a starter and sign a couple of his buddies

We are not competing next year. We will be right back at the 8-8 mark. We really aren't competing if we cant tackle which we have had a problem with in recent years.

I agree the over/under will be right at 8 games.

Simple. Fire Philbin.

Philbin wants an offense based on the short passing game. He doesn't need his o-line to hold their blocks very long because the ball is supposed to be out of the QB's hand almost immediately. So, he doesn't care for big, strong linemen. He also said that the short pass will pretty much replace the running game. We've seen this to be true; they stop running even when Miller is doing good. O-linemen were needed against the Ravens, but Philbin had o-linemen inactive that day because he wanted to carry extra WRs for his short passing game. (BTW, what good is a 3 or 4 WR set when every route is within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage?) Defenses know that Miami almost always throws short passes, so they don't have to defend the deep ball and rarely defend the run. An effective running game is an important part of an offense, and even when it's not working you need to stick with it to keep the defense honest, yet Philbin refuses to do this. Miami ran well against Baltimore in the first half, yet ran just 3 times in the second half even though they were leading. Philbin is a stubborn idiot.

I'm not a Tannehill-lover, but I'd be willing to give him another season to see what he could do behind a dominating o-line and a good running game to support him. But, these things will never happen as long as Philbin is in charge.
