Next years draft is far away but there are a few players standing out in the college ranks. And a few glaring holes on our team.

So do we take best player available or the player that fits our biggest need.

so say whatever pick we are Jenkins/ Vonte Davis are there but so is Crabtree and Maualuga. any player would fill a hole but we could get by without Maualuga for another year IMO but then you get between Davis/Jenkins vs Crabtree. Cb is a bigger need but Crabtree is the better athlete and BPA.

So what do you think?

depends where they draft if it is in the top portion of the draft they will go need

we're still a so-so team. I don't think we're gonna run into too much trouble as far as BPA or need. I mean, Mualuga, Crabtree, Jenkins, Davis, etc. You could make an argument either way for those guys. They'll all be BPA AND Needs.

Think about it. We need another CB, another ILB, another WR.

Same with a DT (Selvie) or a OLB (Micheal Johnson). You know, outside of like, Oher, we really could take anyone in the top ten and call it a need.

depends on where we draft, and whose available.

If we're on the clock and Rey Mauluga is staring us in the face, you take Rey Rey. But if he's taken and so is someone like Davis and Jenkins, do you reach a tad bit for Little Animal/Aaron Curry or do you take someone else at a relative position of strength? (Like a Tyson Jackson who projects to a 3-4 DE)

selvie is a DE but will play OLB in the nfl he isnt a DT.

we already drafted 2 DE's in Merling and Langford...were not drafting another linemen unless its a big DT,and this years DT's position is pretty weak....If were pick outside top 5,and Jenkins,Davis and Crabtree are still there,I gotta go with Crabtree, cause our secondary isnt as bad as our WR corp.I mean,no ones had a 100 yard game yet.Yeah the CB position is bad,but that position is deep,so no worries.Besides,we mightgrab a CB in FA anyway, and draft one in the second round...like Mike Mickens....good player.

Little Animal is James Laurinitis. His dad is Animal of the legendary tag team the Road Warriors/Legion of Doom. I just like calling him Little Animal. He's a good prospect that was overrated a bit as a Sophomore and Junior, but is now gonna be underrated because of some holes in his game (not great at shedding blocks) He is great in coverage with 7 ints entering this season (5 as a sophomore). Biggest knock on him is he is not that great at shedding blocks, and sometimes he struggles in open space.

Aaron Curry is a LB from Wake Forrest and is their best prospect in a long time. He's 6'3 247 with a 4.6 40. Stats aren't overly impressive compared to Little Animal, but Curry is an OLB in a 3-3-5 IIRC (he is a OLB, just don't remember if Wake still runs the 3-3-5 or not). Curry does play behind the LOS as he's never had less than 7 TFL (he's had years of 7, 8.5, and 13.5 compared to Animal's .5, 8.5, 8.5 and Rey Rey's 4.5, 5, and 10), and also has decent coverage skills (5 INTs entering his senior season, and 9 PBUs). Many consider him a riser that could be a top 10 pick after the combine (but is a solid first)

Honestly though, had OSU not been embarrassed by LSU and USC (and they only lost one major starter in Gholston between those two games) Little Animal would be talked about as just as good, if not better, than Rey Rey. If Mauluga struggles in the Pac-10, you'll see people start to turn on him (I personally think Rey Rey is more of a playmaker in the 3-4 while Little Animal is more of a solid LB).

Not saying this is how they play(since they really don't), but in terms of impact in the 3-4 I'd say Rey Rey= Patrick Willis/David Harris Little Animal=Bradie James/James Farrior. One looks like a sure fire All-Pro because he will make all the plays, the other is a smarter player who should be solid for years and maybe make a pro bowl or 2. I'd throw Aaron Curry and Brian Cushing as poor man versions of Adalius Thomas and Mike Vrabel; they both have pass rushing skill, but can also play inside (and both are better suited for inside in a 3-4)

If we're picking in the top10 again.....I think we have to go BPA....

Not going BPA is what got us Ginn instead of Patrick Willis...

If Vernon Carey isn't resigned....then we have a gaping hole at offensive tackle again.

If Michael Oher is the BPA when we're on the clock....we have to take him. I think he'll push Jake Long over to his more natural right tackle position. Oher has better feet in pass protection and better technique versus speed rushers. More of a "pure" left tackle....ala Chris Williams of Vanderbilt last year.

Either way, if we're picking in the top 10....don't reach to fill a need....go BPA.

The only way I would reach for a player is if clearly the best pass rusher on the board wont be there when we pick again.

well. except for 2 or 3 positions, any pick would be a pick of need. im just not impressed with crabtree. mauluga, selvie, vontae davis, these guys would be my pick mauluga being my first.

we have mucho work to do. ive said before trenches still need work. might even get another running back. point being. we have so many needs. that almost any pick would be one of need and bpa.

considering most scouts think Oher is more likely to switch to OG in the pros I don't see him as pushing Jake to his more natural position as you put it.

im not a fan of little animal. hes overrated and seems to disapear in big games. i dont like that. I rather go with REY REY hes a beast and a leader kinda like Ray lewis.

I remember them saying some of the same things about Chris Samuels....

Oher has good enough feet to play left tackle at the next level IMO...

However, Oher could be more in the mold of Shawn Andrews....solid tackle...pro bowl guard.
