so I don't want us to spend money on Soliai.

Wake and Misi at DE

Odrick, Starks at DT ( mcdaniels also)

i mean we have the dine to play either 4-3 and also vontae will be a pretty good cover 2 corner imo he's good man to man

We just don't have the personnel to run the 4-3. We've been drafting for the past few years for a 3-4 defense, we have one of the better 3-4 defensive ends in the nfl with Kendall Langford. This team is just not trying out there right now, we need to get this secondary fixed and hopefully Burnett can actually start playing, lets just hope Dansby isn't going to play all year hurt like he has been.

Wow, speechless.

Wake and Misi would get destroyed in the run game as 4-3 DE's.

Sorry but we don't have the players to play a 4-3 right now. The problem is we don't have the players to play the 3-4 either.

Ozzy rules!!

I will say one thing - Wake is far more "natural" as a DE than an OLB. In the CFL, he pretty much dominated with both hands on the ground (he played at about 265, rather than the 250 or so he's at right now). One thing they almost never had him do was drop into coverage (duh). Of course they didn't have smart guys like Nolan running the show, who can see that him covering Santonio Holmes on a crossing pattern is a stroke of genius, rather than a travesty...

In a 4-3, you would have to consider resigning Merling to a cheap deal and asking him to lose weight. I don't think a 4-3 rules out Soliai, but it definitely rules him out of the big payday he was seeking. I would actually resign Soliai, trade Starks for a day 2 pick and let Langford walk.

Players in my 4-3 dline:

DE: Wake/Merling/IAF/Misi
DT: Odrick/Soliai/McDaniel/Olshansky

Obviously FA/draft would assist in making changes to this unit.

At LB:

Dansby is the man in the middle and would keep Marvin Mitchell to back him up
Burnett would start as a OLB and we would have to draft another or pick up a FA
Use Spitler and Trusnik as depth

It could be done

We have the personnel to switch back to a 4-3. Odrick is better at DT in a 4-3 b/c he's too quick for guards. Starks is a beast inside too. Langford is ok to handle the LDE in run situations and occasional pass down and we can always throw Misi there on 3rd and long (if we are in nickel) or Alama-Francis. Dansby has always been better as a 4-3 ILB.

Base 4-3
RDE - Wake
DT - Odrick
DT - Starks
LDE - Langford, Alama-Francis

OLB - Burnett
ILB - Dansby
OLB - Misi

Nickel
RDE - Wake
DT - Odrick
DT - Starks
LDE - Misi

LB - Burnett
LB - Dansby

Dansby was an OLB when the Cardinals ran the 4-3.

i think Wake would fine in the 4-3 and Soliai would still be kept around because one of the DT's in the 4-3 (i think the over-tackle) plays similar to a 3-4 NT. I think Misi would be better off as a 4-3 strongside OLB because I don't see him as having the build for a DE.

the biggest thing that would hold the 4-3 back, especially a Tampa-2 style one, is the lack of talent and speed at safety position imo.

Wake struggles against the run as it is as an WOLB, he would get destroyed playing as a 4-3 DE.

We would need to bring in TWO DEs and another OLB to have personnel for a 4-3.

I wouldn't be upset if a new regime decided to switch to the 4-3. Our current 3-4 isn't installing any confidence.

FWIW; Koa was a DE in college & even played some DT.

I know; he's a versatile player but I don't see him as a DE by NFL standards. His biggest strengths are run defense and coverage so he could be more effective as a strongside OLB in the 4-3. BB did it with Ninkovich this year.

If the Dolphins decided to a 4-3, I think the player who would benefit the most is Odrick. He has the right combo of size and strength to be a 4-3 DT.
