As it has been through the season, there is no predetermined narrative with these grades. No mysterious "clutch factor." No tweaked-out quarterback ratings that defy explanation. Our grades are based on pure scouting, and lots of it. We grade the key criteria for each position based on a series of attributes and add in a score for positional importance.

In the case of a tie, our scouts ask, "Which player would I want on my team?" and adjust accordingly. Is it a subjective process? Of course—that's what scouting is, and as we like to say, ties are no fun.

Each player is evaluated and graded by our crack team of scouts, who possess more than 100 combined years of experience in playing, front-office work, coaching and media. John Middlekauff, Marcus Mosher, Mark Schofield, Duke Manyweather, Ethan Young, Joe Goodberry, Justis Mosqueda, Charles McDonald, Zach Kruse, Derrik Klassen, Jerod Brown, Ian Wharton, Kyle Posey, Mark Bullock, Chuck Zodda and Doug Farrar have watched tape for months to bring you these grades.

#NFL1000 rankings will get criticism because we grade process over result. Average fan doesn't care about the process. And that's ok.

Here are the final NFL1000 player grades for the 2016 NFL regular season.

Defense

4-3 Defensive Ends:
out of 68

Cameron Wake #15
Andre Branch #32
Mario Williams #65

The AFC featured fewer teams running a true 4-3. The best tandem was in Miami with Cam Wake, enjoying a fine comeback season, and the addition of Andre Branch, which ended up being a nice piece.

Inside Line Backers:
Out of 65

Kiko Alonso#60

Largely overvalued players are at the bottom of the list. For all of the talk about passing offenses, a linebacker who can cover but can't stop the run is a liability. Miami Dolphins middle man Kiko Alonso is the perfect example of a player with sideline-to-sideline range but the poor ability to stop the interior run with consistency.

Grading Scale

Strong Safety: out of 53

Rashad Jones #1 (#7 overall)

Miami's Reshad Jones was having a terrific season before he tore his rotator cuff in October. He is one of the most well-rounded safeties in the league, equally adept in run support and coverage. He has the highest average grade of any safety this year, and it was a shame to see his season cut short by injury.

The 4-3 OLB are pretty hysterical. Probably not as funny on Sunday tho. Bet you loved that Kiko blurb. I disagree with a lot of these and BR in general, but love the detail.

It's a little concerning these scouts had a tie between Ajayi and Stewart and concluded they'd rather Stewart too...

I don't love the knock on Alonso, just reconfirms my thoughts on his play at MLB. And our OLB grades . . . :bobdole:

Bleacher Report has a bad rap but they've rebuilt a respectable staff. The grades are obviously debatable, but as you said the detail and the listed criteria for the grades are great work nonetheless.

Overall, I think it's a very solid job and reasonable analysis across the board.

Overall, I think it's a very solid job and reasonable analysis across the board.

I have a lot of holes to pick out just going through in more detail. But that comes from anything this detailed. Like you look at a guy like Stills and you see their grading. Grading for YAC, route running and hands. How can a guy like Stills be effectively graded when their game revolves around speed and getting over the top of defenses. Speed is paramount to his game, don't need to be a great route runner to run in a straight line. Don't need YAC when everybody's behind you. I've done far more detailed trait based grading on draft prospects than what they provide. Just makes the grades feel incomplete and a little irrelevant. For WR's anyway, as I go through them.

I can look at the RB's and see Kenyan Drake rated as the worst receiving back. The guy had 10 targets and no drops. I know it's the process but I'd like the best and worst guys to have a bit more of a sample than that.

Am I crazy to think we can move Kiko to WOLB next year and find a solid MLB?

Am I crazy to think we can move Kiko to WOLB next year and find a solid MLB?

Nope. Might not be the best at carrying coverage, but at his best when he's kept clean and in pursuit. Now finding a MLB is no easy task. But Kiko would be a highend will.

Sounds about right. The Drake knock is a little weird. Pretty small sample size

Tannehill a top 10 qb? Sounds about right.

Suh a top 10 NFL player? Sounds about right.

Reshad being a monster at S? Sounds about right.

Those 3 are building blocks for a damn good team.

James is a better RT (18) than Albert is LT (20)?

if they grade the process there should be some accountability for the fact kikos played all year with nothing around him at lb...I don't disagree with the carry coverage and the poa play are inconsistent at best but miamis basically asked him to make up for deficiencies all around him...and the last 5 weeks he's done it with one arm really and no real ability to wrap up due to the thumb...at least they mentioned his range

if he's that bad they won't tender him they wll let him walk...we'll see

jelanis grade I agree with he has to grade out worst when he's played but there's also no accountability for him playing hurt ALL SEASON LONG and that definitely plays into things here...no cod no ability to make plays in space he has to make...hopefully sunday he looks like he belongs

x howard 110th at cb is a real hard one to fathom let alone swallow...eli apple surpassed him late for best looking rookie corner all year but come on 110th? crazy pills...where does this slot work come from anyways? must be the tight formation stuff where he's lined up over a flexed wr and they call it "slot" run

very little run lined up inside with a boundary outside for x...biggest ehh is he allows himself to be stacked in the vertical stem more than you'd like to see

Nope. Might not be the best at carrying coverage, but at his best when he's kept clean and in pursuit. Now finding a MLB is no easy task. But Kiko would be a highend will.

No doubt and its killing me. Just think what a good/great MLB would be for this team. Suh, a complete MLB, Jones behind that. Will 2017 be the year? Seems like we say it almost every year.
