hey guys, just wanted to vent my frustrations about what i have seen from the nfl this year..im a huge fan obviously, and im a DIE HARD phins fan till the very end, but i do not like what i see in the nfl these days.

first of all, it seems like every player who makes any sort of play, even a minimal tackle..will get up and run off and do some dance or flex for 30 seconds..this was cool when we just saw it in the end zone or sacks or tackles in the back field and plays like that, but everything that happens needs an individual celebration from players..its is becoming really obnoxious...

the penalties...not just the phins, it seems penalties are on a rise..the ravens got flagged 21 tmes i beleive it was on sunday, we got 18...there are multiple flags on plays, dirty blocking..all sorts of stuff i hadnt seen before. i would be interested in seeing the number of penalties this year versus this time last year, maybe im crazy but i thnk there would be a huge difference. there seems to be a lot more undisciplied play. players are getting more reckless with the officials, doing their own thing, getting ejected, etc.

finally..the offciating..never have i seen such inconsistency from nfl officials...trotter gets ejected a few weeks ago for barely touching mathis's face mask, and then we have someone this week actually knocking a ref down and not gettng ejected. not to mention the guy threw a real punch. the taunting call on randy was outrageous i dont care what anyone says, i see players do that sort of thing and a lot more all the time. like i said above if players seem to be able to dance for minutes it seems like just by getting a sack why cant randy celebrate a touchdown in competitive spirit, i rather see someone taunt a db in the end zone with a ball then a bunch of other crap thats allowed. offensive pass interference is NEVER called anymore, i kno this was never big but some of the push offs are seriously ridiculous...as well as all the holding that goes on that never gets called...officials seem to be doing a poor job this year...

anyway, is it just me? what do u guys think?

Its about discipline. I wouldn't pee on brady if he was on fire, but you don't see the patsies doing stupid stuff like that. Welcome to the site by the way:D

i hate most of the pass interference penalties... sometimes it rewards a team for attempting a pass.l I've seen many overthrown balls called on pass interference.. What a joke!

I can live with the occasional pass interference...sometimes its either get the penalty or give up a TD. Same goes for holding on the O-line. On a running play there is really no excuse, but on a pass play sometimes you have a choice- hold the guy or let your QB get decapitated. I'll take the 10 yds on that one.
The penalties that get me are the false starts, offsides, taunting, fighting, etc. Those penalties have absolutely no mitigating circumstances and the guys that commit them...especially the multiple offenders...should be dealt with far more harshly than just running wind sprints.

yes you do, all the time, they just aren't called on it.

i saw a Johnson (Bengals) giving heart massage to a ball in the endzone after he scored and i just thought "what a complete jerk" (or words to that effect!) They were 13-0 down at the time and my thoughts at the time were "does he know the score?" His actions to me were unprofessional and totally classless. Dont get me wrong because Johnson is a class WR but did u ever see Jerry Rice or Mark Clayton do dumb celebrations? I dont mind trade mark celebrations like JT and his heart shape punch thru or the old Ricky shuffle (bengals) or the slam dunk by the Chiefs Gonzalez when its consistent, but sometimes its just annoying when we get McMike getting penalized for what amounts to holding the ball out to an opponent which as mentioned earlier is happening more frequently and in my eyes harmless.
As regards to the penalties it does seem like its flag city at the moment which is ruining the flow of games. Watching a few games over the weekend it seems that the commentators favourite expression at the moment is "and we have another flag" "so whats new!" Have the zebras been told under a new directive to clamp down on the more fickle calls or is it just plain bad technique by the players? I would say it needs to be adressed because games are being decided more often than not by the amount of penalties teams are getting. Saban is known as a strict discipline coach and we are one of the main offenders at the moment! Lets hope it gets sorted.

You may be right, but in the nfl if they aren't called they didn't happen, i guess

But as far as taunting goes... Its whether the celebration is directed toward an opponent.

Yesterday on the NFL channel they had the head ref. who comes on the show every wednesday to explain some of the penalities from the past weekend. Sometimes he makes sense and sometimes he doesn't. But anyhows they had a graf on the penalties that the nfl has had from year to year since 2000. And i know this will blow your mind but for the first 5 games each year since 2000 teams have avg. about 13 penalties a game untill this year inwhich they are avg. 15.2 per game. I know it seems like this year there are so many more penalties then i can remember in the past. And maybe it seems that way because the dolphins have had so many thus far. But i had no idea that the avg. was so high?????

Personally I would like to see all celebrations banned

Not a big fan of celebrations either, even when the Dolphins do it. Seems that after a player scores a TD. He should act like 'no big deal iv'e done this before and I plan to do this again many more times'...

wat bugs me is when they celebrate after a tackle they made that went for 15 or 20 yrds. you shouldnt be proud of yourself after u gave up that many yrds

Touchdown Celebrations don't bother me. Maybe I'm one of the few but I find the T.O. and Chad Johnson celebrations to be funny. I agree about celebrating every tackle or the 1 yard gains but if you get in the endzone, enjoy it.

Celebrations appeal to a younger audience, and as such, they help drive money in merchandising to the NFL. This is why celebrations are "discouraged" but not actually penalized.

My biggest problem with the NFL with regards to officiating right now is the way it is treating defenses. For the last three years, the NFL has tried to slant the rules in favor of offenses, since most fans love to see scoring. Last year's chuck rule is a good illustration of this, as is the new way it is enforced. Getting a sack or a clean hit on a QB now almost seems like an impossibility. Even defensive holding calls are on the rise...a penalty that used to be rare. Look at the scoreboards every week, and it really drives it home. I like offense too, but I would prefer balance. Soon, it won't be worth fielding a defense.....

I dont mind the TD celebrations, but I'm like everybody else I hate when a player makes a tackle after a 15 yard gain by the offense and gets up and acts like he just sacked the QB for a 15 yard loss. I can understand sometimes after a big hit you might want to celebrate, but not just on your everyday tackle.

The endzone celebrations I think are pretty fun as a fan. I dont think that I would like it as a player that was just scored against. Until a majority of the players come out and say that dont think its right I think its fun. More than anything else I think the NFL loves it just for the fact it keeps people watching to see what Terrell or Chad will do next. You have to admit they get pretty creative.
