Is the league doing a better job of figuring out Saban's defense or is it simply a matter of lack of talent.

After Miami's total domination of Denver the feeling was not only positive in terms of the season but also that Saban was indeed a Defensive guru.

Now in the 3 games since our bye-week the Bills...Bucs...and KC have moved the ball on miami both through the air and more disturbing on the ground.

I wonder where to place the majority of blame, lack of talent or lack of scheme?
My concern is that before the season we read story's on how miami was going to be running all these exotic defense's using Jason Taylor in multiple postion's.

Ultimately I dont know what to think I mostly blame this defensive let down on talent.....but maybe there should be more thought to is Saban x's & o's NFL calibur.

An offense that can sustain some drives would sure help the D out.

Saban doesn't have a defense.

You are right. After the first few games teams have caught on to our defensive and blitzing schemes. Now we can be profiled quite easily.

Could be both talent and scheme. Remember Saban and Bellichek run the same type of defense and the Patriots lead the NFL in TD passes given up. They have also given up some long runs. Teams have had a chance to study this scheme for 5 years, watching the Pats, and even they can't overwhelm you with talent anymore.

I still thing our biggest issues are on offense. We just can't move the ball consitantly at all. We are big play or bust. Total opposite of the last 5 years.

They are decoding where the Pro Bowlers aren't located in the defense.

I'm not that worried about the running game. KC is a great running team and has the best RB tandem in the league with an incredible O-line. They found our weakness which was Jason Taylor on the left side and exploited it to the fullest. I was disappointed last week with the run defense and Crowder's overpusuits but the Bills game was fine. A good RB in McGahee only had 74 yards and never looked that dangerous.

It is the secondary that needs to be revamped through the draft. I think we have a solid Nickel corner in Daniels and maybe a starter if he can improve his cover skills but we need to draft a CB in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of this years draft and play them like Jimmy did Surtain and Madison.

it's not saban's fault our linebackers couldn't rush through a wet paper bag. although, believe it or not, when green actually did have pressure on him, the chiefs were stopped. coincidence??

yup... that, and the fact that the offence has alot of 3 and outs make it hard for any defence to play great.

Any defense is gonna suck when you go 3 and out over and over on offense. If we can get a running game and control the clock our defense will be okay....the Chiefs had the ball over 40 minutes!!! :yell:

lack of talent in the secondary leads to the defense not being able to get off the field on 3rd downs. blitzing is also a lot more effective with the proper coverage behind it. i don't think people have necessarily figured anything out; remember, pennington was completing long ducks out there in week 2. it's the talent.

k.c. also got roaf back, which is huge for them. l.j. and priest are both going to pick it up with him back in there.

It seems our blitzing in inneffective. And it seems we always send the house on 3rd and pass in a predictable fashion. I guess things are still being worked out, kinks in the system and all, and a terrible pool of talent in the secondary. But it is certainly depressing after that comment after week one how the defense is only on the A's if the defensive playbook was a phone book.

my 3 year old has made better open field tackles, scheme is fine, players on on social security, need more young guys
