NFL Division Power Rankings
1. AFC North: If these rankings were based only on winning playoff games, Andy Dalton alone would have the AFC North in last, but thankfully for Dalton, the regular season matters here, too. The AFC North went 26-13-1 in non-division games in 2014, thanks in large part to the Bengals, who went 7-2-1 out of division. The AFC North also sent three teams to the playoffs in 2014, which is the second time that's happened since 2011. The only other division to send three teams just once in that span is the AFC West, which did it in 2013. (AFC North vs. NFC West and AFC West in 2015)
2. NFC West: The NFC West could eventually tumble in the rankings if the 49ers can't overcome the loss of Jim Harbaugh. Although the 49ers won't have a shirtless Harbaugh running around San Francisco, they will have the next best thing: A head coach who wears a kilt.
Let's be honest: Only thing Jim Tomsula did wrong today was not wearing a kilt. #49ers http://t.co/SPsSwBv3TJ pic.twitter.com/FSgFCQf038

If the NFC West is going to implode anytime soon, this year seems like the one where it might happen. The Seahawks are dealing with a distraction in the form of Russell Wilson's contract, the Cardinals are relying on a quarterback who's coming off a torn ACL (Carson Palmer) and the Rams are giving the keys to their offense to Nick Foles. The NFC West gets bonus points though for being the NFC's Super Bowl representative for that past three years. (NFC West vs. NFC North and AFC North in 2015)
3. NFC North: The NFC North is one of only two divisions -- along with the NFC East -- that's sent all four teams to the playoffs at least one time over the past five years. That means the division has been consistent, but for some reason, consistent also means crazy in the NFC North. The Bears, Vikings and Lions were unable to crack the .500 mark in the season after they made the playoffs and all three of those teams have hired a new coach since the beginning of 2014. The reason the NFC North is ranked so high is because there's no horrible team and there's one really good team. I'll let you guess who that is and remember to answer in the form of a question. (NFC North vs. NFC West and AFC West in 2015)

4. AFC West: This actually seems like it could be an awkward year for the AFC West: Peyton Manning is slowly falling apart, half the teams want to move to Los Angeles, Philip Rivers isn't sure if he wants to move to Los Angeles and a team coached by Andy Reid seems to have the most stability. This might be the final year we see the AFC West ranked this high. This division is the only one that hasn't produced a Super Bowl champion since 2002, when the NFL realigned its divisions. (AFC West vs. NFC North and AFC North in 2015)

5. AFC East: The AFC East is the hardest division to rank heading into 2015 because every team seemed to get better this offseason. However, the Bills and Jets still don't have a starting quarterback and the Dolphins have proven over the past six years that they're not capable of producing anything over eight wins. If the Patriots can win one game for every fun thing Gronk has done this summer, then they might go undefeated this year. (AFC East vs. NFC East and AFC South in 2015)

I think they have the AFC East rated to low. I understand the Dolphins record in the past but they are going to be a very tough team to play this year. The Jets and Bills have gotten a lot better as well.

Idk, I think the NFC West is ranked too high. Seattle is Seattle, Arizona can be really good but can also be mediocre, St. Louis hasn't proved anything and I don't trust Foles, and San Francisco is trending downward drastically.

I'd also put the AFCE above the AFCW. Denver has Peyton, KC can go either way, SD well can be good but I can't give credit to a team who lost 37-0 vs an 8-8 team and then there's the Raiders.

The 2 teams in the AFCE who don't have QBs have great defenses.

NFC West even with injuries and rampant in-season mediocrity are still superior to what our division produces. SF is most certainly trending down, but the Rams and Cardinals, along with the Seahawks, are more sound/superior than any 3-team combo from our division.

AFC West once again has a more sound top 3 team combo comparatively. Besides noting the obvious, ie Peyton/Denver, Rivers is still a top-tier QB. Forget what we did to him, prior to that he was paving the way for an MVP season. Offensive injuries tanked their momentum. The Chiefs are dangerous, even without throwing a TD to a receiver. Top defensive unit, consistency, filled in their minimal holes. Sure, the Raiders are the Raiders, now, youth trending up under Del Rio, but the Jets were our Raiders last year. In fact, you could really replace "then there's the Raiders" with "then there's the Jets, Bills and Dolphins".

Those two divisions have consistency, which our division does not. Our division has paper promises.

Those great defenses you mention are also facing coaching changes. Great players, sure, but no more Schwartz in Buf. We'll see how Bowles manages NY. Too much change and fluff to rank the division higher.

They're not really using any science in these rankings, and they're a joke. There's a site that ranks the NFL and college every year, and it's vouched for by many experts, and it has the AFCE as #1 last year (and overall #1 since, like, the '90s).

Honest question, you think the Rams, Cardinals, and 49ers are better teams than the Dolphins, Bills and Jets? I'd put money on every AFCE team vs the NFCW with the exception of Seattle.

Eh. It's kinda sour grapes. I mean, I just want the phins to win. Being in the Patriots shadow for over a decade has just sucked.

Looking at each team as a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately vs paper potential, yes. I wouldn't put money on any AFC East team besides the Pats.

The Eagles are the only sure thing? For me the Eagles are one of the biggest question marks of the entire league. They could be great, or they could be a total train wreck. I know I'm happy to be playing that division this season though and I predict the AFC East is going to tune the NFC East to a record of about 11-5.

The NFC West is the second most interesting watch for me. Three QBs with the potential to be elite and one elite coach. I think the Rams are a dark horse to win the division. Foles could be that good (though if he is all of his success will probably be attributed to Gurley and that defense), if I didn't hate Fisher so much as a head coach I'd probably even put a superbowl wager on the Rams.

The AFC West is going to slide. Too much drama in San Diego. Alex Smith is going to bore the Cheifs players to death. I predicted Manning would retire, was wrong but we'll see if he should have. I think Oakland could make the playoffs this season, if not win the division. Carr could be good. They have some devastating players on defense. They drafted the best, most polished player in the draft, which should help Carr quite a bit. And they're going to have that new coach rush going for them.

The Arizona Cardinals are legit. If Palmer is healthy last year they go far into the playoffs
