NEW YORK (AP) -The 32 compensatory draft choices in the 2008 NFL Draft (April 26-27) awarded to teams that suffered a net loss of certain quality unrestricted free agents last year. The compensatory choices will supplement the 220 choices in the regular seven rounds of the draft, with picks positioned within the third through the seventh rounds based on the value of the free agent lost. Choices listed by round with overall selection in parentheses:

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.

No, he's right. It's not till the next year you get compensary picks. So who ever loses the most free agent talent this offseason will determine what picks they will get in the 2009 draft.

like the poster above said... you get comp picks for the prior years FA additions/subtractions... because how they performed on the new team comes into play along with their salary and some magical other things the NFL doesn't want to tell anyone

Keep in mind though that this is the first year since 2003 that we got any compensatory picks. A 6th a 7th round pick is better then nothing.

we basically only lost McIntosh what did ypu think we should get for losing a guy we did not even want.

all i know is this draft is DEEP in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

the talent in those rounds is phenom, the best in years.

the friggin' redksins got handed 3 3rd rounders for comp pic.

that gives them 4 3rd round pics. DAMN!!

and atlanta got awarded i believe 2 more 3rd rounders to go along with
there 3 second round choices they have.

knocking on atalanta and washingtons doors for trades like mad!!

Not sure what you are talking about, but Washington got ONE 3rd round compensatory pick, bringing their total to two in that round. Same goes for Atlanta.

Compensation system is a joke. Look at the Eagles...they got picks for Jeff Garcia and Dante Stallworth...players they rented for a year.

Do you sometimes get the feeling that the NFL is pretty darn flawed?
