LEWISTON, ID - In a developing story that has become more clear as the days roll on former LSU offensive lineman La'el Collins has been cleared as a suspect in the shooting death of his former girlfriend Brittney Mills.

The surefire first round draft pick's stock plummeted following initial accusations that Collins could be involved in the shooting. The new NFL free agent is able to meet with teams.

Collins' attorney spoke about Collins' interview with police Monday.

"He answered all the questions that they had," said Collins' Attorney Jim Boren. "Every question we didn't claim the fifth we answered every single question we gave them all the information they asked for and he's ready to get his life back."

Collins' agent said his client is not meeting with NFL teams about his pro football future at this time despite Collins two and a half hour sit down dinner with Buffalo Bills Head Coach Rex Ryan Tuesday night.

Three former teammates of Collins who now play for Miami also met with Collins yesterday (Tuesday) in an effort court the offensive lineman to come to Miami.

Just recently reports have surfaced that Dallas has voiced their interest in the free agent and may want to add depth of arguably the best offensive line in the NFL.

Good for him.

F*** Dallas, they want him.... as depth. Gimme a break. come here collins.

Gotta love the team sending players he knows and Pouncey, who I believe was more important.

Another example of a report making claims with no evidence. Just as police never said Collins was a suspect in the murder, they also didn't say they've cleared anyone as a suspect. Until they know who committed the crime nobody can be cleared as having a role in the crime, not Collins or any of the victims other friends or family members. I have doubted his involvement in the case from the beginning, but some of these reports that claim he was a suspect when he was never mentioned as one and now others claiming he's been cleared when nobody has ever announced that is getting out of hand.

Lets hope the others who were basically calling him guilty come to this thread to eat their crow.

Fair enough but you cannot ignore two key facts:

1. The victim was close to him and crimes like this are often of "passion", putting him in a precarious spot. I'm going to guess parents and neighbors are not prime suspects in any such crimes and rarely turn out to be responsible.

2. No one in the NFL threw a 7th rounder at him. That speaks volumes for someone who is reportedly NOT a suspect or person of interest.

Anyone who's watched a few episodes of "The First 48" would know that.
As an investigator of 17 years, you probably also know that it can sometimes take weeks, even months, before a suspect is charged even if the police have had him on their radar the entire time.

And I saw a report where he had tried to come in and be questioned but the police said they weren't ready for him. Isn't it also possible that the police are gathering evidence on Collins in the hopes to catch him in lies?

I'm not saying Collins is guilty of anything but I don't see how the media, bad as it is sometimes, is at fault here. Collins might very well be a victim of circumstances, and that's a shame for him if he is, but life doesn't come with guarantees. On the other hand, Collins may not be a victim of any sort. We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, any contract we offer him should contain some language that protects the team should Collins be charged.

Is it not a possible and plausible motive?

It wouldn't take a special human being to hire a "hit" and no he is not guilty by association, but yes he is a "person of interest" his so-called by TMZ "airtight alibi" is terrible wording if he did indeed say that and could also hinder him - I mean it sounded to me like a "hit" 10:30pm what is the motive? It doesn't take rocket science to figure out that she could have got pregnant to leverage him - sounds ridiculous until you think Hernandez or Carruth

Just to name a few.

Miller and Ajayi running to "Collins Avenue" is a natural. :)

OMG this is a report coming from a small tv station in Lewiston, Idaho. Not exactly a reporter that has any ties or inside information to the case.

He's said he want to play to sign with a team to play OT. We prob won't be his first choice since he'd be OG for us unless an injury. Hopefully his "LSU buddies" can convince him to come here tho

There's absolutely nothing new in that story other than the writer's claim that Collins has been cleared. Cleared by whom? When?
