With the signing of Knowshon Moreno to be the featured running back for the Miami Dolphins along with last year’s starter Lamar Miller who will shift to a complementary role, a roster crunch is in store for Daniel Thomas and Mike Gillislee.
The Dolphins are likely to keep four running backs at most, according to James Walker of ESPN.com and with the versatile Marcus Thigpen likely to join Moreno and Miller on the roster, either Thomas or Gillislee figures to get cut.
Thomas has been a massive bust since being taken out of Kansas State in the second round in 2011. He has not been able to match the 581 yards he has in his rookie season and further damaging his case to make the team is he was drafted by former Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland.
Gillislee only had six carries for 21 yards as a rookie after he was taken in the fifth round out of Florida, but because he’s younger, cheaper and possesses more upside than Thomas would be my pick to make the final roster.
