With the signing of Knowshon Moreno to be the featured running back for the Miami Dolphins along with last year’s starter Lamar Miller who will shift to a complementary role, a roster crunch is in store for Daniel Thomas and Mike Gillislee.
The Dolphins are likely to keep four running backs at most, according to James Walker of ESPN.com and with the versatile Marcus Thigpen likely to join Moreno and Miller on the roster, either Thomas or Gillislee figures to get cut.
Thomas has been a massive bust since being taken out of Kansas State in the second round in 2011. He has not been able to match the 581 yards he has in his rookie season and further damaging his case to make the team is he was drafted by former Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland.
Gillislee only had six carries for 21 yards as a rookie after he was taken in the fifth round out of Florida, but because he’s younger, cheaper and possesses more upside than Thomas would be my pick to make the final roster.

If we draft another rookie, both will be cut. I'm a huge gator fan and I was baffled by the Gillislee pick. He's just one of those guys even in college football that does a lot of things, but none of them particularly well.

Daniel Thomas is better than Gillislee at this point in their careers but Daniel Thomas needs to go. Thomas is a huge disappointment and liability.

I think D. Thomas is a pretty solid option at 3rd string runningback. He even showed some flashes of brilliance last year -- amongst other flashes of disappointment.

Daniel Thomas looks like garbage a lot more then he looks good. And the thing that ticks me off the most about him is he whiffs on too many blocks for a 230 pound running back,

I agree. I don't see a problem keeping him ahead of Gilislee. The cost difference is not significant and Thomas is better. Forget about where they were drafted and you'd be hard pressed to deny that.

My guess is Thomas goes. Not sure they would give up on Gillislee this soon, unless they are sure he cannot improve.

I'd be shocked if they cut Gillislee so quickly when he didn't get a lot of playing time to begin with.

Thigpen has been garbage in the return game and D. Thomas has had more then enough time to prove himself.. Cut'em both and it won't hurt the team at all.. IMO.

IF this is true that they will only keep those 4 guys then I think a lot of you are missing what this really means... That we are done at the RB position all together.

I thought we would draft 1 more guy, but this is pretty evident that we will not, IF true.

Is there any advantage to cutting them now as opposed to bringing them through training camp? Roster bonus, maybe?

Hold on to all of them through camp. Maybe you can trade a late conditional pick for him.

Or maybe the team has injuries and has to keep them.

Cut Thigpen, Thomas and Gillislie....Hickey has no ties to these guys so he owes them nothing....draft a guy, pick up an un-drafted guy, and bring in a low priced vet.

Thomas is not consistent and can't block.
Thiggy is just too small and just isn't talented enough.
Gillislie has no speed, he's just a guy.
