The Miami Dolphins are in need of some serious help when it comes to getting better in 2014, but they won’t be getting that help form 2013 first-round draft pick Dion Jordan. Despite being a top pick in the draft last year, Jordan hasn’t yet made an impact with the team and that’s a trend that will continue into 2014.
According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are not expected to name Jordan a starter in 2014 and he’s not expected to overtake anyones job next season either.
The coaching staff loves his tools but believes he needs to add more muscle mass to play the run more effectively (he intends to) and shore up his pass rush moves. He would not project as a 2014 starter.
The Herald quotes a Dolphins source that states no one expected Olivier Vernon to develop into the player he did in 2013, something that has carried into 2014 and caused Jordan to be a non-factor i the starting lineup again.

This bothers me, greatly.

First off, who the hell is Josh Hill to make this statement?

Secondly, it's February 10th... kinda early to be declaring impact players for the 2014 season, isn't it?

Lastly, Dion Jordan knows he needs to improve to become the player he knows he can be in this league. As long as he stays motivated and is capable of tuning out rubbish like this, he'll be just fine.

lol, this article(can you really call it that?) is just taking a comment made by the Miami Herald and jumping to conclusions. The comment was that the Dolphins have two very good veteran defensive ends as starters currently in Wake and Vernon and if they moved Jordan to linebacker it would be hard getting him on the field instead of Misi. This doesn't mean the coaching staff is benching Jordan for the 2014 season or "won't be getting help" from him as this article(?) states.

Jordan will play, and he will play A LOT more, but he just might not be considered a true starter. Randy Starks wasn't a true starter for most of this season, but that was because the team also had Soliai and Odrick on the roster. Yet Starks played a lot, played well and made an impact on the team. I would rather have a three-man rotation of Wake/Vernon/Jordan than just have two of them.

He looks like Rachel Maddow...

we might see all three of them on the field in nickle. if Starks leaves, we're gonna need another inside rusher. that could be Vernon.

Wow, I bet ths kid has been following the Dolphins all the way back to... The Sparano era

Not buying into the article, but all I'll say about dion is he's too good amd too special of a player to try and stick at a position and label him a DE or LBer. Let dion be dion, the incredibly tall, agile, fast player who gpcan blitz from multiple positions and cover TEs, cover RBS, and even cover WRS, drop into zone, or contain.

If our staff forces him into a damn position instead of just letting him be the guy he was drafted to be, than Ill completely give up on the entire staff. Im not sure you could do anything dumber than demand he bulks up so he can stop the run. If that's your plan, you wasted a draft pick.

It's a sign of strength in our starting DE's instead of weakness in Jordan. He is Won't replacement when Wake leaves us. Having Jordan makes us deep and that's good.

Wow, position battles already won without any workouts or practice.

What next, someone saying Matt Moore will challenge Tannehill for starting QB...
