While some people have chosen to focus on just how much the Miami Dolphins will be paying defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, it seems like that the real point in terms of signing the four-time Pro Bowler has been missed.
The Miami defense has gotten a whole lot better. Joe Philbin’s squad slumped down the stretch last year, especially when it came to stopping the run. The addition of Suh should help remedy that quickly, while defensive ends Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon figure to be even more effective as pass-rushers. The Dolphins totaled 39 sacks this past season but also surrendered 165.3 yards per game on the ground in their final six outings.
Improving quarterback Ryan Tannehill has a new-look receiving corps in wideouts Kenny Stills, Greg Jennings and 2015 first-round selection DeVante Parker, as well as former Pro Bowl tight end Jordan Cameron.
There are still some questions at linebacker, but this looks like a much more formidable team on the defensive side of the ball. Tannehill has more weapons at his disposal, and running back Lamar Miller is coming off a solid year.
All the pieces are in place for the Dolphins to enjoy their first winning season since 2008.

We have definitely improved on paper. RT in his 2nd year of the Lazor offense should see gains, we changed up the WR core to fit more of his strengths (although hopefully getting a full rapport with his new crew won't be to taxing), DLine added a dominator and we added a true Seam threat at TE. A lot relies on health, but every team has that issue and Miami has gambled on a few guys who have had health issues . . . it's part of the process.

If this team finishes 8-8 or worse this year, there just can't be any excuses and changes need to be made.

I feel like Wake and Vernon won't produce the big numbers this season that everyone is expecting.

I can't say for sure, I just know that Suh is a dominate force that can make everybody better around him. They should be better with him in there.

Yep. I don't really care if anyone has better numbers individually. Hopefully those run lanes will disappear, and the secondary will "improve" because of more QB pressure. Wins, that's the stat I want to see.

I think we got better on both sides of the ball. I think what killed us last year was our special team's play and some pretty poor coaching by Philbin, especially late in games when we called time outs to help the opposition. We gave away the Packers and Lion's games.

Sorry but I just don't see any way to see our defense as getting better. Going into the draft we had huge holes at LB, CB, and OG. We over looked them all. Our LBs are not better than last year, the same at best. Our CBs are the same minus a starter. Our DL is one blow up from one of the most volatile personalities in the league away from being significantly worse. Add to that we decided to keep the DC that gets worse as the season goes on, every year, and it is really hard to make a case for this defense being better, or even staying the same. We finished 12 in defense last year and I see no way we are in the top 15 this year. Teams know how to play our defense by now and Kevin has not shown he can change things up enough for there to be reason to believe this season will be any better.

That's odd, because opposing RB's saw holes in our DL to the tune of 165.3 yds/g in the our last 6. :idk:

I'm only mentioning this because I asSUHme that somewhere you have overlooked other facts.

Defense should definitely be better. Last 6 games were awful for the defense because everyone was hurt or injured.

I think for the defense to truly excel, they really need somebody to step up into that middle linebacker role and be the QB of the defense. Not sure if that guy is on the team. Also they definitely need one of the CBs to step up in that opposite boundary CB spot.

Every where else we are solid and there are A LOT of bodies right now at CB and LB, so may the best man win.

I'm hoping it's Jamar Taylor to finally become that #2 corner. Have no clue on MLB, maybe Hull but that's wishful thinking.

While you assign needs/holes by positions, which is fine, you could also look at the big picture and say we were dominated in the run game in the last 6 games... Because... Well that was the real issue... Now Add Suh and Phillips in the middle... I think that issue has been fixed even if Phillips only hits his floor as a rookie... Even if the LB crew is status quo...

If delmas is healthy week one i feel better about a lot.. Sounds like he will be,
Im worried about the sam backer if misi stays in the middle.. I like mccain but he seems light for a full time strong side

I'm no football expert, but how does OG determine if our Defense got better or not?

Sorry man but none of this makes any sense. How could anyone not see that we added some HUGE talent to our D so far? We still should address some positions but how can anyone look at what we have done on the D so far this off season and not find it as anything but a huge upward swing.....?
