The Dolphins’ Damien Williams (28), celebrates with Jay Ajayi (23) after Williams scored a second-quarter touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 16. The celebration didn’t last — the NFL hit both players with a fine for unsportsmanlike conduct. (Charles Trainor Jr./Miami Herald/TNS)

Damien Williams might want to avoid news coming out of the NFL’s annual meetings next week in Arizona.

NFL Vice President Troy Vincent, a former Dolphin, said the league doesn’t plan to relax rules regarding celebrations during games.

Williams, who was fined $12,154 last season for one such celebration, said he wished the NFL would “chill” a bit when it comes to letting players and fans celebrate big plays.

Heard Goodell talking about this on Mike and Mike - he gave the impression they were at least going to look at some of the celebration rules - seem to recall him saying something like "we want the refs focusing on football plays, not celebrations"

i'm fine with it - overzealous celebrations are obnoxious for the most part

It's a game when it's all said and done. No $*** we don't need players fake dry humping the air but dancing to celebrate is totally fine and makes the NFL what it's become. Slowly and surely the NFL is taking away what the fans they need (not us hardcore fans) to keep picking their favorite player and buying his jersey even though that person doesn't care about the actual team.
They'll start losing those kinds of fans before us Phinatics. Those type of fans still spend a lot of money and resources on the NFL brand.
Even getting autographs isn't a fun experience anymore.
Every team hotel I went to last year would ban us from standing inside without buying a room and behind a barrier inside with a room purchased.
Do they really believe us fans could hurt these 6'5" 300lb players lol They treat these "people" like the pope. The Dolphins are an awesome signing team BTW. Highly recommend going to their team hotel when they come to your city. Ross wants his players to interact with his fans. Got Suh (tough graph to obtain), Landry, Ajayi, Tannehill(bigger than most think), Wake (class act), etc...
PHINS UP!!!

You're right. I do hate seeing a first down being celebrated like a TD. Completely unnecessary and could hurt the team..Landry I'm talking to you lol
PHINS UP!!

The NFL is going after dancing and fun even though we watch sports for entertainment. The NFL is really going after the important stuff.

Spontaneous and genuine celebrations are wonderful. It's joyous to see people celebrating a successful outcome after a strenuous, often painful effort.

It's the scripted, pre-arranged nonsense that I can do without.

these are type A personality studs with enormous amounts of adrenaline in their body. I think it would be very hard foe certain players to refrain from showing emotion in some manner. Sure, it has to be corralled but by and large it's part of most pro sports.

I think TO and Chad Johnson really ruined it for everyone by continuing to one-up each other with ridiculous prop-laden celebrations. It just got too distracting and ridiculous. They should relax the rules again since these buffoons are gone. Some of the celebrations people get flagged for are just so benign and innocuous. Let the guys celebrate a hard-earned touchdown.

This could be so easy to resolve....just set a time limit...say 20 seconds post TD, to celebrate, make an ass of yourself, make a fan's year, or whatever it is you want to do.

Not allowed - dropping your drawers without underpants, dropping fbombs into the camera.

For first downs and such, your teammates will keep you in check if you are wasting time or being a total ass. Im not a fan of thefirst down signal on a 2 yard catch, but its not hurting the game.

I think after touchdowns there should be some celebration allowed. It adds more fuel to the game. But I think it gets excessive with scripted acts and guys doing 15 second long dances after sacks.

I still think that some of this is pretty subjective. Jarvis Landry is a target for taunting penalties by officiating crews because he is allegedly an elite trash talker. He even got penalized and fined for spinning the ball. He also got fined and penalized for jumping and embracing a goal post after a great TD. However, the NFL in its infinite wisdom, politely cheers Lambeau leaping and Gronk spiking the ball after every TD. Let's just get more consistency in all of this. It appears that the NFL has certain favorites who are protected.
