1. Defensive Tackle: Keith Traylor's 38-years-old and can no longer man the middle in a 3-4 and neither Steve Fifita or Paul Soliai will be the long-term answer either so they'll probably need a nose tackle.2. Inside Linebacker: Zach Thomas is now winding down toward the end of his career and will be 35-years-old next season but even if that weren't the case he's a bad fit for a "Parcells Style" defense.3. Offensive Tackle: Left tackle Vernon Carey is better suited to be playing at right tackle and his best fit might even be inside at guard while right tackle L.J. Shelton is at best just a stop-gap journeyman.

I was thinking about that the other day- so many good OT's in the draft, and Carey may be best suited to play guard. He's a darned good tackle, but- I swear I would be happy with Jake Long/Mormino/Satele/Carey/Cherilius. And that would most likely be there for the taking.

So many needs on this team I know, but we have to fix the OL, and so many other things will fall into place (time of possession, running game, rest defense, allow Beck to have time to throw/not worry about getting killed in the pocket, give Ginn more time to fly down the field, etc.) Pure synergy.

Carey being better at Guard is debatable, but that would be one butt-kicking Offensive Line and I'm all for it.

First off Carey is not better suited at guard. He's best position is at RT where he was playing at a pro bowl caliber in 06'... He proved he can play LT adequeltly last year.

Either way. Shelton maybe cut and Alabi will be nother better then a back up. This draft is loaded with about 5-7 good OT prospect. The fact that Carey can play both OT spots is a plus.

and why wasn't WR, TE, or DB's mentioned as a need?

I would tend to agree that Carey is best suited at RT. He could be a great guard but he's overpaid and over qualified for that position. That being said, I'm not a Liewinski fan nor a Shelton fan- not really Hadnot either. Alan Faneca- now we're talking. Jake Long/Mormino/Satele/Carey/Cherilius. Maybe a pipe dream, but it's nice.

We won't be competitive until we fix the offensive line and front seven. Wide receiver, tight end, and defensive backs are certainly needs. But, they are somewhat irrelevant until the other areas are addressed.

I could see a situation where we went Dorsey at # 1, OL with our first second, and MLB with our second. That is why I anticipate free agency to be focused primarily on the secondary, on a wide receiver, and probably one starting quality linemen. In essence, I see CB, S, WR, and G/T being big in free agency. I expect them to try to land a starter caliber type player at 3 of the 4 positions. Try is the key word, but we will see.

I wouldn't mid if Faneca was the only FA we signed in the offseason. I'd love to see a starting line of

Carey/Faneca/Satele/Mormino/Cherilius
