To be fair…. No one wanted to give up a day 2 pick for him. Had he been unrestricted I’m sure he’d of had plenty of suitors, and early on. He’s a solid nickel who can cover on the boundary in a pinch if needed.

It was smart to put 2nd round tender. If we tried to low ball with something insignificant it could have cost us.

Think this worked out relatively cheap for us too.

In the modern NFL placing a tender on a player pretty much makes them untouchable. You basically have to offer the player a contract worth more than their current team would be willing to pay. Otherwise said team would just match your offer. Then, you forfeit the pick based on the tender. In other words, not only do you have to overpay to get the player, you also lose a high draft pick in the process. Needham is an excellent slot CB, but no team in the NFL is going to break the bank to sign him AND lose a 2nd round pick.

Because it’s a second round tender. He’s good but no team is giving up a second rounder for a slot corner, not sure why the negativity?

He has been one of the most fun kids to watch develop. From 2019 when we gutted the roster, he flashed at times among a defense of street FAs basically and you could see the potential. He can play the boundary too.
