Chad Pennington says he has no plans to negotiate an extension with the Dolphins despite entering a contract season.

All Miami has to do is look down the depth chart and at Pennington's past to know that extending him is a bad idea. Pennington, 33 in June, has not once in his career put together back-to-back good seasons. Backup Chad Henne also has far more ability. Henne is a good bet to see starts as soon as '09.

told you, penny is a major fluke as far as backing up himself esp considering how tough our schedule vs teams with good Ds are next year i wont be surprised to see henne start 4 games in.

I think the only way Henne starts is if Penny goes down...which I admit is a strong possibility given his history. If Penny goes down he may never get his job back if Henne shows some promise.

I don't see this as any big shock for either side. I'm sure he was told when he came here, he was going to be a stop-gap until they felt their younger QB choice was ready to start. The two years gives us time for our young QB's to get ready and learn from CP. But also gives CP two years to start and demonstrate his marketability to other teams wanting him to either start or be a vet back-up. I don't think anyone expected him to have as good of a season as he did. Now let's see if he can repeat.

I'm tellin you. Here's a guy who completely turned this franchise around on the field and now he's regarded as a fluke or someone who will get hurt next season. I just don't get it. Give the guy the benefit of the doubt. He can show us what he's capable of doing with a mediocre offense. Think of what he'll be able to do with the improvements will make plus the knowledge of the offense...including the wildcat! :)

No big deal right now. He is still under contract for the 2009 season, so they can wait to extend him next offseason.

I think he understands that Henne is being groomed to be the long-term starter. He has also said he wants to finish his career in Miami, even if that means backing up Henne.

Next years going to be tough on this team as a whole. We are playing a very good schedule. I wonder if we unload Beck and bring in another backup just in case. Henne might be good or he might be another Beck, I just haven't seen enough of him to know.

Chad Pennington is not going anywhere. Do not panic. We are not that foolish. Chad Pennington proved last year he has gas in the tank. He is our leader and the only way Henne see's the field is if Chad Pennington gets hurt. I like Henne and he is our future but I play for now and right now Chad Pennington is a Top 12 NFL Quarterback. He emans as much to the Fins as Peyton to the Colts, 2nd in MVP voting guys...

The fact that Pennington has never had good back to back seasons somewhat concerns me.

Pennignton had a chip on his shoulder last year against the Jets trying to prove he still had it in him to start. Now, he must play with that same intesity and not let up.

I think Penny will get better as he gets older ala Kurt Warner and the guy that started for Tennessee when VY went nuts. I see Penny playing a full year for us, barring injuries, then going to another team as a retiree/back up. What that means is we will need to draft another qb this year especially if the Beck rumors are true.

The team will surely address Pennington's contract when the time comes. Because by that time, they should know whether Chad Henne is ready to take the reigns. It would be kind of silly to pay Penny starter money, if he wound up being the backup.

Im a Penny supporter and I'd like to see him finish the whole season in 09. I think the idea that this season was a fluke is a bunch of crap. The Jets are always up and down, I dont think it has anything to do with Penny. If he's healthy he'll start unless Henne really shows that he's got it. I'd love to see him back-up Henne in a yr or so and retire a dolphin.

Worse comes to Worse they will slap his *** with the Franchise tag if he has a better season then this one or sign him before the season ends....

Not sure why anyone thinks we should tie up money exstending pennington at this time. there is no need. He is under contract and if he performs well he might just get extended.
