Those are some pretty serious need positions. We don't have neither Booker nor Chambers <--:boohoo: anymore. I hope that there's going to be some trading going on. It's unlikely that we'll convince either of the Marks brothers or Don McNeil to come out of retirement.

Were building this team for the future starting in the trenches.

And dont forget, we might be able to get a couple guys after the June 1 cuts for cheap.

These DEs we drafted will be occupying blockers so our linebackers can rush the passer. A strong pass rush is the best thing we can do for our secondary. I don't know why people are crying about no WRs? This was a weak class for wideouts.

i think we might have jumped on our choice of WR if Merling wasn't there at 32... he was a first round talent that dropped to us...

agreed. why waste a pick on a WR when this class was so poor at that position. to draft a WR just for the sake of drafting one is needless. better to use the pick on a guy that can actually contribute.

Jeff said that he'd like to get a number 1 WR but as you could see, none of the teams felt there was a real number 1 WR on this draft as none were taken in round 1....we got 3 WR's in free agency and we have Wilford and Ginn starting as of now...Hagan is in his last chance now...he's got the talent so we'll see...as far as corner....you can't get everything in 1 year...the front 7 is more important and we started there.

Ozzy rules!!

We drafted on fundementals, not on team needs.

True you cant get everything in one year, but the later you leave it to address a certain position, the longer it will take to develop it. In three years time we will still be talking about our weak secondary.

At first I agreed. I badly wanted a CB or even a WR.

But after analyzing and looking at this draft I believe Parcells and Ireland did this absolutely correctly.

In 1 offseason those 2 have fixed our O-line and our Special Teams. And arguably solidified 4 or 5 spots of our future front 7.

That is a nice building block.

It is really difficult to evalute Ginn/ Beck or Henne and even Ronnie for that matter if they have a horrible O-line. Now we can truly evaluate and find out how good or bad our WR core may be.

vice versa

By solidifying or stop gapping our front 7 we can now effective gauge Jason Allen and the rest of our secondary. Remember our defense got sacks but the majority of it was due to Coverage sacks then anything else. Our secondary was not as bad as our front 7 last year.

Having a Champ Bailey means nothing if there is no D-line. Having a Johnson means nothing if you don't have a line.

Now that we have solidified our Lines we can now work on CB'S and WR'S. We truly aren't that far off from being competitive maybe a couple players. I expect us to have a very succesful season this year.

Many are just panicing because guys like Lehan and Torbor and Langford aren't household names. Surprisingly even though Lehan was one of our better DB'S last year

I think it was pretty obvious what Jeff Ireland's plan was. He knew that Miami were poor and poor in all three facets of the game. With the salary cap the way it is, you can't restock offense, defense and special teams in one go. So they clearly had an aim in free agency and that was to turn the ST group into the best unit in football. They raped and pillaged some of the finest ST players available; Keith Davis, Nathan Jones, Charlie Anderson, Reggie Torbor, Tab Perry ( an exceptional gunner), Chris Crocker, Boomer Grigsby (top wedgebuster). They already had a very good ST guy in Ed Miles and of course one of the premier return men in football in Teddy Ginn.

They clearly looked at the draft and thought, 'you can either secure the lines so as to make us harder to run on, makes us quicker to the passer and better running and blocking for Beck on offense', or we can mix it up; do it half and half, a little on the lines, a little on the skill position players. They did it the first way which is the best way. Miami isn't getting run over like it did against Oakland. Randy Starks, Jason Ferguson, Vonnie Holliday, Rod Wright, Phil Merling, Kendall Langford, Paul Soliai, etc. Not happening. On offense, Jake Long, Murphy or Mormino or Thomas, Satele, Smiley, Carey....that's 4/5ths of potentially the best OL in football. Certainly from Satele through to Carey it's excellent and Long is no idiot.

What they did with the rest of FA is fill depth. Wilford is a good pick up. Sean Ryan isn't Antonio Gates, but he can block a truck. Torbor is a good player, Crocker is a good player. Fasano and Ayodele were great pick ups. 2 starters for a back up running back. Protect your assets; Ronnie Brown had a great weekend and he didn't do a damn thing. We added a banger in Jalen Parmele who reminds me when I watch him over a smaller Brandon Jacobs. And I think we added a WR in Davone Bess who will make the roster. I will be really surprised if he doesn't.

What it means is that next year, we can add some spice with a Derrius Heywood-Bey or a Brandon Pettigrew or a Travis Beckum or a Greg Carr. And if you want to go DB, then Malcolm Jenkins or William Moore are there, or you want a big banger at MLB, well there's plenty of them.

It's going to take a while, but these are good, good times for Miami. Kudos to Jeff Ireland.

BOOM! Thanks for your input. Good to see you around these parts.

That was a good overview of the draft. What's your thoughts on the players, individually and where they were selected?
