Nolan Carroll II

He started to 'get it' the last two years here, but too little too late after 5(?) years.

He's a good 3rd/4th cornerback.

I think more than anything we were looking for players with better ball skills. Carroll has none. He's turned into a pretty decent corner, though.

He was drafted because of his 40 time and in his first two years he looked like an athlete and not a football player, showing little ability to move laterally and adjust while attempting to cover, so he got burned a lot. In 2012 he was thrust into action due to injury and actually performed solidly, and last year he was pretty darn good though never a game changing play guy. He's like a lot of guys who hit the market who are good but not great, so the team didn't make any push that I know of to re-sign him, especially after investing in Jamar Taylor and Will Davis at CB that draft. The only knock I can give you on Carroll is that he seems to get dinged up a lot, though last year he played through what looked like some really painful hits.

You won't find a great amount of love for him around here, too many Dolphin fans write the book on a guy based on his first few appearances, not on the player he eventually became. He was a starting corner on a defense that almost never got beat deep, and that says something.

If he's playing good for you guys thats great. He is a depth guy not a starter by any means...

This defense that has picked what, 3 passes this year, is sure composed of a bunch of ballhawks. Given a choice between solid and potential playmaker who make a mistake every now and then, this staff is all about solid.

Our defense was perfectly find with him starting roughly 75 percent of the year due to Patterson's vaginitis.

I always liked him. Solid tackler and played good safe coverage but didn't have the courage to jump routes. He won't get ya many picks but he is a safe player to have on the field. For him to come up with turnovers a QB has to throw it right at him. But he is solid in run support and has good size and speed. I wish we would have kept him for what you signed him for. He was better than the way Taylor is playing although I hope the light comes on for Taylor at some point.

Carroll was a high character guy and his mother was like a big politician or something and his dad was in the military if I remember correctly. He won't be getting in trouble for ya, but he won't be making a lot of game changing plays either. He was a good signing for ya for the price you got him for IMO. GL and whip them cow girls when ya get a chance. I have a nephew that is driving me crazy telling me how great his cowgirls are.

He's fine as a dime CB and as a fill in but don't count on him as a starter. He won't make a big play and he has few passes defended. The Eagles have been lucky so far this year with him in there, but make no mistake, he's a weak link in the secondary. BTW, I welcome you to take JImmy Wilson next year.

For a while there he couldn't over himself with a blanket if he got cold, but he was pretty good last year with us. Probably not starting material but good depth.

He would certainly be an upgrade to what we have at the bottom of our roster at CB right now.

Nolan is a good player who improved every year at Miami. Some of us were very disappointed he wasn't re-signed.
He had a bad game in 2012 vs Buffalo and many on Finheaven never gave him another chance.
In addition to being a good reliable player, he was one of the most intelligent guys on the team.

Isn't he the guy who while returning a kick against the scumbag Jets got kneed by the conditioning coach from the sideline?

Agreed, it's funny that a bad game is a game where we didn't give up an offensive TD LOL. Offensive ineptitude lost us that game as usual even with Carroll's 3 PI penalties.

Tripped, and yes!

Carroll low round pick 5th round who improved every year even as been pointed out he got nicked up a bit. He worked his way into a starter and I believe is still improving. We gambled going with the oft injured Finnigan who is more dynamic but that does not help if he is not playing IMO. Carroll was a value resigning we missed out on IMO you got a good guy on the cheap who can play as a starter if needed and you will be ok.

I was over Carroll just because he was starting for us, not because he was necessarily a bad player. He's a depth guy who can rotate in and provide solid support, but seeing him as the starting CB and getting a lot of snaps always made me feel concerned about the team, like the chance of us getting a turnover was now diminishing the more he's in there.
Normally a solid defensive player is worth every penny, but for the Fins who seem like they haven't seen turnovers in years, it was time to switch up the chemistry of the secondary by letting him, Sean Smith, and Clemons go.
And sure enough, Smith gets INT's now, when he couldn't catch a ball to save his life before...:rolleyes2:
