Not a good year for Grier

And McLaurin 0 catches last night

I think I was right. Quinyon Mitchell should have been the pick.

How could anyone not think that? He was legit top 10 talent in an absolutely stacked draft. Him falling was a gift from the heavens they ignored.

I think Grier quintupled down on this wrong. Drafted Iggy & Smith high. They flop (or are in the process of flopping). Forced to use a bunch of cap to sign Ramsey & Fuller as a result ... both of which have been underwhelming. Drafts Chop (which would be tripling down at edge for those paying attention) while passing on the total stud Mitchell ... completing the quintuple.

They keep letting him do this ****. Over and over and over again.

They don’t call him “mayor” for nothing. He’s the incompetent, corrupt mayor of a poorly run metropolitan that sells sizzle to his low information constituents - but doesn’t deliver any steak.

Instead, they dine on overpriced bologna and every election they tell each other it’s steak.

I like to think of him as a pyramid scheme grifter who blackmailed you into some life-long contract and every year you're looking for the loophole that finally ends the madness.

My money says Grier wanted Mitchell and McDaniel wanted Chop. Based on everything I’ve read, that’s how I believe it works. I think all the Chop hating is going to end very soon though. I think history will be kind to this draft.

A ways to go for the jury to come back, but so far it looks like most of the picks are shaping up to be long term contributors. Yes we want stars but it's still a good draft.

Newly signed free agents have been a mixed bag, but mostly good and no worse than a B- in my book. Letting our own free agents go has looked pretty wise thus far

On the other hand...contract extensions may be enough to tank Grier's grade for the year, though I'm not sure any of us--even those of us who were very critical of certain deals when they were signed--would have predicted the regression of the paid players to be so immediate and dramatic across the board. It's as if our own re-signed players were possessed by the souls of Jets free agents.

On the other hand...Weaver looks like the real deal, if we can keep him.

Good and bad. Not sure it's fair to call this Grier's worst year when there are so many to choose from that didn't have all the good that 2024 has to balance out the bad.

I would have taken Barton but at least Chop is playing better. It looks like he might not be a miss. And pass rusher is a premium position so I understood the pick.

Having drafted Cam Smith in R2 the previous year and signing Fuller in FA I don't think a CB was a serious consideration for them.

Obviously Mitchell was a terrific prospect and is ironically excelling in old "friend" Vic Fangio's defense.

I would expect CB(and S) to be high on the agenda this off season though, especially if they can't work out a long term deal with Holland.

Chop did absolutely nothing against Green Bay

It's remarkable the level of power he has obtained within the organization without ever putting together a substantive body of work.
Everyone on the football operations reports to him and then he gets to paint his own picture to Garfinkel and Ross
He is good at keeping tabs and getting other people to fall on the sword since he's been here.
The argument for his sympathizers is that somehow the General Manager and president of football operations is not making any decisions with regard to team personnel.
He's already starting to do it with McDaniel by leaking info to the press
You know who else was good at that? Jeff Ireland.
Jeff Ireland hasn't received a General Manager interview in ten years since he left the organization, and i bet once Ross sees the light Grier will follow a similar path.

You would think a guy like that wouldn’t have to finally be fired, but would instead step down or resign after so long if he had any integrity. But he doesn’t have any. He knows he’s a fraud and a charlatan. He knows his days riding the gravy train in an NFL front office are over once the sand finally runs out in Miami.

Just admit you can’t get the job done, or even come close. That someone else deserves a chance. Anybody. It doesn’t matter who. Enough is enough.

But people like him don’t have any integrity. Mayor Grier is literally the mascot for what’s wrong with professional sports organizations that cement themselves in mediocrity and irrelevance.
