Not A Total Rebuild?

Brewer is an extreme
Looks that way after rumors of being back McDaniel and only moving Phillips who wasn’t going to resign. Everyone else likely returns. Hopefully they hit on their draft picks next year. Wouldn’t shock me if champ Kelly remains gm.
So basically just wasting 2026 and not even trying to rebuild. If that's true then Ross is a moron.

Could be that's been the plan all along. For 2026, roll with McD or someone currently on staff and Kelly as caretaker GM while they serve their time in cap jail. No decent GM prospect is going to want the job (without an absurd contract to protect themselves) knowing 26 and 27 are essentially "dead cap" years.
So waste the 2026 draft?

One caveat to any of this... there was no need to move Chubb or Fitzpatrick today. It would have been nice, but once the season is over, they might be even easier to move, so watch what we do with them on draft day.
Exactly! If Chubb stays healthy, and continues to peogress throughout the season as he’s been doing, someone will come in with an offer and probably better than what was offered today. If not, he’s cut and the Dolphins save $20m in cap space anyhow.

Unfortunately Ross doesn't want to go through another tear down and rebuild which we embarked on in 2019.

So he will continue to take half measures and short cuts to put a winning product on the field.
The screw Ross and screw this team. Let him continue his failure. Maybe with new ownership in a few years the team will be worth watching. Until then no sense in wasting anymore time on this nonsense.

Agree. Otherwise, I believe McDaniel would be gone.

At least it's an opportunity to find another GM and, hopefully, hit big with that hire.

Maybe Ross is looking at setting up another down year, for higher draft position in 2027 as well? Get the first, second or third best QB in what is being hailed as a terrific draft for quarterbacks.
Why waste the 2026 draft when we already know they will most likely have a top 5 pick. So let a schmuck like Champ Kelly just throw those picks away?

Anyone who thinks we don’t need a full "rebuild" is just delusional
See thread on us vs the jets. At least the jets get the joke and chose a path. Sadly the other most dysfunctional organization in the NFL is light years ahead of us w regard to fixing things

If we get a good GM then it will matter less
100%!

I wrote earlier that making sure a good GM comes in trumps anything the Dolphins do between now and then and that’s maybe why I wasn’t really interested in what happened today. The next thing will be a QB.

Today really meant next to nothing. Today was meant for the teams actually competing for something who needed a piece or two. Them and the stupid Jets who like to dump their stars (like they did about 5 years ago) so the can collect more losing lottery tickets. 😂

That’s what it looks like to me. I’d like atleast a new gm that will head the rebuild if and when mcdaniel’s falls again atleast. Not trying to waste another year of drafting.

Great post. A total rebuild, IMO, doesn’t need to include trading away your objectively young and very good to elite players. I mean, opinions differ and I guess there’s an argument or situation where you replace all 22 starters, but to me that’s overkill if you have the kinds of players the Dolphins have. Especially on their offense like you wrote. The Jets obviously felt differently, but they’re the Jets. Using them as the measuring stick for what to do in a rebuild is akin to asking your plumber if the chest pain your’re having is a heart attack.
I'm not sure what the right approach for Miami is. Had Grier drafted Herbert, Jefferson and Taylor, I'm pretty sure he'd still be here.

It's really going to come down to excellent drafting, player development, operating at a high level from the top down. Hard to be confident Miami can achieve that. But they get another opportunity to get it right with the GM.

I think Ross might be looking at a two-year rebuild. Hopefully hiring the right GM, and moving in the right direction with younger players.

Possibly being competitive in 2028.

Yeah, I’m sure Grier would like some draft redo’s even more than us fans.

Hiring a legit GM is the single most important thing Ross needs to get right. If he does, everything else will fall into place.

Absolutely. The Jets have all these picks now, but still have to get them right. Same with Miami, especially at the all important quarterback position.

It took Patton (Denver’s GM) 4 years and that’s because he made the mistake of paying so much for Wilson. As soon as he was able to dump him and got Nix they look like a totally different team. There are other teams that turned it around faster, but I think the Dolphins resemble the Broncos. Albatross QB, no continuity…if Ross can get a good GM we should start seeing changes rather quickly, but I’m willing to give it more than 2 years.

Yes but why not hire that GM before the start of the 2026 season. Sweeten the pot offer them a 6 year contract and tell them 2026 and 2027 are rebuild years to start filling the roster with drafted talent? Why waste an entire draft including a top 5 pick with a guy who isn't your long term GM. That makes no sense. If you're going to rebuild then the time to start is now.
