Let me start by saying that this is NOT a Tanne Sucks thread. I'm asking these questions because I'm trying to objectively evaluate whether or not this kid can lead us to a SB. At the end of the day, my allegiance is with the team not the players.

1. In the 4 1/2 years he's been here, has he ever lead a game winning TD drive? if so What game and what opponent?

2. When it's obvious we have to throw the ball, end of half or late in games when the defense knows we have to throw, has he ever lead us to a position on the field to give us a chance to win with a FG?

3. Over the 4 1/2 years he's been here, has he developed the skills to throw WR's open on a consistent basis?

I'm not looking for opinions here, I'd like facts , specific games, circumstances, plays etc...

Yes,

1) games against Green Bay last year, Denver, and Detroit years before that games included Pittsburgh, and Atlanta to name a few however the defense collapse Ina few of those but he got us te lead in the fourth...

2) see number one

3) go check any other Tannehill thread on this forum. You will read countless posts on how all his yards are because of YAC, aka throwing receivers open..

He also led a 4th qtr win against Minny last year.

Yes. Here is the list - http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/comeback.cgi?player=TannRy00

See above for end of game. Two minute drills at the end of the first half have been one of his strengths.

Not sure what you are looking for here. Does he throw with anticipation? IMO, yes, maybe not at an elite level, but certainly solid. Can he somehow cause WRs to get better separation? No, nobody can. IMO, Tannehill regularly throws into tight windows because that is usually all he has.

See above.

You might not want to start a Tanny sucks thread, but that is probably what it will turn into.

Let me ask you a few questions:

1. In the 3 1/2 years that he has been here, have you ever been confident that when the other team knows we have to throw that our OL will protect the QB adequately?

2. In the 3 1/2 years that he has been here, do you ever recall a game where Tannehill was not playing well but the running game just took over the game and dominated?

3. In the 3 1/2 years that he has been here, have you been confident that the defense will pull out games in the crunch?

4. In the 3 1/2 years that he has been here, have you had confidence in the coaching staff?

it's 3 1/2 years by the way.
Look this is a head-scratcher. We rewarded him for nothing done, all potential. At what point do we say "oops?" We are talking financial commitment, which doesn't matter, however, it does when you have a cap. With that said, even a financial commitment with one more year shouldn't stop the FO from analyzing this team objectively. If he is not the franchise qb, then you go back to seeking that. I think it is imperative that the new head coach fully accept the qb. That is a one-to-one relationship most important to a team. There is enough tape on Tannehill to let a coach know what he has. However, the FO can't expect to handcuff any player to the coach. The FO gets the players based on what the coach's program will be. If there is any silver lining, Miami made no real commitment beyond the end of next year. Do I wish we were in a situation where we decide to pick up an option end of this season or extending with a lot less dollars? Yes? We gambled, we lost. Tannenbaum in many ways was reckless.

You see the problem in all of this is that it's just easier to deny that he actually is a solid qb. In talking to other teams fans in the league, they are lost how we could be disappointed with Tannehill... But I'm just a TanneLover as they say...

Kind of hard to bring the team back when your behind by 24 points which the Dolphins always seem to be. Also since he has been here on obvious passing downs the line can't keep him upright.

IMO everyone is to blame, including Tannehill, I just think he is still a good quarterback despite lacking at time (which all QB's do).

Guarantee this will not get as much love as a Tanne sucks thread or people will gloss over it becuase of previous agenda. There is no way that you can blame Tannehill for this game this one was really on the defense that gave up huge runs and some questionable calls by the refs.

I never see other teams fans saying Tannehill is good. Never.

Clutch performances are not his thing...

Funny that the PFR lists the Washington game from this season...

I think Landry was the "comeback guy" in that one, but sure give Tannehill Credit

The Cincy Holloween game from 2013...didn't we have the lead going into the 3rd Quarter...and couldn't put anything more then a field goal drive together and allowed Cincy to get back into the game only to have WAKE win it...Yep...Tannehill

so 6 games where he has won the game....

Joke right...

Perhaps it's just where you are looking, I have friends who are Raiders, Vikings, Colts, Bengals, etc fans and all of them say that Tannehill is a solid QB...

I don't think it hurts our team to bring competition to the position. it will be 4 full seasons soon

I don't think anyone disagrees he is a solid QB, but like most in the league you need to build a team around him...all components need to be good. Basically he's not the type to make up for the holes in other areas, some QB's can...some can't.

And how many of those friends religiously watch Dolphin games? We'll probably see all 4 of those teams in the playoffs this year . . . all 4 teams with QBs in that "newer" class . . . yet we'll just continue kicking rocks with our good ol' 17.

Honestly, If I looked on a fantasy site from last season (because we know most fans of other teams only know about how players are doing via fantasy stat lines) I would automatically assume he's a "solid QB" as well. Too bad real games aren't played on fantasy sites.

He's typically a safe QB . . . . set the completion record this year and at the same time did it by setting the record for least amount of yards traveled in the air per completion. At this point, you can hardly call him solid. He's in year 4 and he's still a work in progress and still has the inconsistencies you see in quarterbacks in their first 2 seasons.
