... Anyone think, with 20/20 hindsight, that a big, physical, aggressive and speedy safety like Scott Shields might have coped better with the physical battle against Gonzalez - rather than him saying "you want fries with that?" for a living?

(No disrespect to Jamar Fletcher, but when he was one on one against him he looked like Gonzalez could use him as a toothpick).

no - Shields cover skills were not good enough to play S in our D - he was converted to LB before being cut. There are very few big S like Rodney Harrison left since most teams expect their S to be able to cover 1 on 1
