I believe it was the 2002 preseason opener against the Bucs. I remember it was on a Thursday night and ESPN was broadcasting it. I barely got my nachos and Labbatt's Blue when I see the Bucs' kick returner catch the ball in the Bucs' own endzone and then takes off and reads his blocks beautifully and blazes down the field for a 101 yard kickoff return for a TD. That was Frank Murphy. At the time I was like, "WTF??? I haven't even gone through my pregame rituals yet!!"

Although we have a logjam at WR, Murphy just might make it as our kick returner. He sure seemed to read his blocks well and he has the speed that Welker lacks. Plus, he's been impressive in camp. He just might be a possible dark horse candidate to make it.

It was the same year the Bucs won the Super Bowl, because I remember all the hype about Gruden that Theismann and Paul McGuire were gushing about, so it must have been 2003. He must have gone to camp with them in 2003 and either got hurt and wasn't on the final roster.

The guy has talent, but unfortunately for him he's at a crowded position and will have to have a great camp to make the team. Plus he needs to kick the injury bug.

He has speed, but we have quite a few WR options at camp. I don't think he has a shot to make the final roster, but you never know

Chambers, Booker, and likely Hagan are "locks" After that your guess is as good as mine at this point.

yeah Welker is in danger of not making the teamwith Campbell, Murphy, Aromashodu and Vick as well all being capable returners. we just gotta keep the WRs who give us the most at WR

I'd rather have Welker. He is smart, reliable and dangerous as KR/PR. Of course if he gets hurt, we will need a backup.

He is dangerous as a PR, but not as a KR. He doesn't have the explosive spped you need for a KR and a LB almost caught up with him when he returned one to the house against the Ravens. I think we will see Campbell or Murphy being our KR, while Welker stays as our PR.

Often we overlook Welker's ability to make big plays as a wide receiver. According to nfl.com, he had 29 catches last year.... but 20 went for first downs and he averaged 15.0 ypc. He's not Marvin Harrison or Terrell Owens but he's come up big time and time again when we needed him, and he doesn't drop too many passes... As a matter or fact, I can't remember him dropping any off the top of my head.

we have so much talent we need to keep 6 WRs

depth chart: Chambers, Booker, Hagan, Campbell, Welker, Vick

I like Aromashodu but there's too much talent at WR although personally I would take him over Welker. Murphy won't make the team, no chance

Actually it's more likely that Murphy will make the team and not Vick. All reports are that Murphy has been impressive thus far...I think Vick will placed on the PS. JMO.
