OK, Saban came in and promised to rebuild, but then it turned into a reload. And everything collapsed, and now hes gone.

So now we have a GOLDEN opportunity to start a new page in Phin lore. A REAL new page, not just more Wanny era junk disguised as Saban.

First off we need a NEW HC. New as in, not a retread. No martz, no Mora, no Ditka, no Green, none of them. If they are so good, they would be coaching right now. But they arent. For a reason.

We need to go in a NEW direction here. Give the team to a NEW coach and let him run with it. Look at whats happening in NY, in San Fran. New coaches=new promise, excitement, a chance to rebuild and reach for the next level. Old retread coaches=same ol same ol. GO FOR IT! Have we been so tainted by Saban/Wanny conservatism that it has rubbed off on us? Do we REALLY want to settly for 8-8 seasons, first round playoff losses and the like? That is what a Martz or Mora will bring.

However-NO COLLEGE COACHES!! They just dont transition. Its proven. How many of them need to fail before we figure this out? All this talk of Carroll, Ferentz etc should just stop right here. The NFL and NCAA are 2 entirely different kinds of football coaching-different philosophies and mentalities, from the "owners" to the assistants, players, fans, everything is different.

My short list for HC. Wisenhunt or Grimm from the Steelers. Caldwell from the Colts, Cameron from the Bolts, Rivera from the Bears, Saunders from the Cheifs. There are prolly some others who could work too, but thats my short list. Please for the love of god sign one.

Second, we need to give Mueller complete GM control, and let the HC just damn coach. Saban being GM apparently had a paralyzing affect on personell decisions that severely hurt us. History again shows that GM/Coaches are not as successful as Gms and Coaches seperate. Mueller is a good talent guy, let him work!

Third, fire MM. He was just awful, horrible, terrible, egregiously bad. I dont need to explain this further to anyone who watched a handful of games.

Fourth, Find a QB in the draft. Quinn, Smith, Russell, Brohm and Brennen all figure to be first rounders (if they declare). Pick one! Remember, new HCs often bring in new QBs. Whoever takes over this team likely will not be happy with Harrington Lemon and Gimpy. Make a move for the future, a bold move that will signal the coming of a new, brighter era.

Fifth, find offensive playmakers. We lack some serious speed at WR, and also at KR. I love Welkers effort, and I could see him as a 4th wideout and punt guy and special teamer, but we need a burner. Just look what Hester did for the Bears. Im not suggesting we blow our second on a KR guy, but we need to upgrade our speed and playmaking ability.

Sixth, start replacing the D. If ZT and JT moan about rebuilding, trade them. I love these guys, they are awesome, but if they dont want to be part of the future i wont begrudge it to them to go play for a contender. Maybe a team like the Eagles or Seahawks would be willing to deal. We cannot sacrifice the future for a present that JUST ISNT HAPPENING! We arent winning the SB this next season, and not the season after. Season 3 we can start talking. I hope those guys and others would stay, but we must move on!

The key here is to keep moving forward steadily. Saban tried to make a great leap forward, and it collapsed around his feet and he ran like a coward from the crumbling.

I am SICK and TIRED of MEDIOCRITY! I will be willing to somewhat sacrifice the upcoming season for progress. We need to make REAL inroads into the problems, not just quick fixes and band-aids. Please, Wayne, make it happen.

nice post...no more retreads...lets get a young team let sbuild thru the draft and do it right this time.

Sorry, there just isn't any talent at QB in this years draft. We should make a trade with Atlanta for Matt Schaub.

your fingers must be hurting after that one! you seem to be on point. tat is exactly how I see it as well. it is time for a new era and it may be time to send ZT and JT and KC to contenders for both their careers and our future. we have been mediocre for so long now its depressing. we have a great owner and some decent pieces. let's get someone to FIX the problem and not band-aid likke the last 4 coaches have done. Systems forward thinking and conflict resolution is what we need. I'd say go after Scott Piolli as well

Wow that made me laugh. I listed the top 5. This class could rival the one that produced Marino/Elway/Kelly. No

No more trading for other teams QBs anymore, we need to build from the draft the way successful teams do. No more crappy trades, no more bringing in of other teams junk. We want to start over and that means the draft.

Fantastic post.

I will go one further with it. Take a HC as you defined. A young, hungry, ambitious coach - offensive minded. Saunders could be money right now because here in the DC area their running back Clinton Portis just complained like a fool about him on the radio.

Whomever we take will likely clean house with the current coaching staff.

That said I believe we have yet to farm potential coaches and players from the past that have Dolphin history. Bates DC - Strock QB coach or OC. Tony Nathan RB Coach and so on. I have to imagine with so many legendary players and such an illustrious history that we can find at least 2 or 3 to come on board now and rebuild this thing from bottom to top and top to bottom.

Another good draft, and continuing a healthy trajectory with our cap situation and we could be contender in 2 to 3 years.

Thanks for that post!

Bates wont come back as a coordinator, I think hes said that publicly. And just because a person is a good player doesnt mean they will be a good coach. That said, there is nothing to say they wouldnt be either, and you make a good point. We certainly could look at bringing some guys for position coaching slots and such.

Hell, maybe having Phin legends around will inspire. That is the basic point of starting over and getting a new HC.

I want someone with fire and passion who is coming to Miami to build a franchise and put his name alongside guys like Bellicheck, Cowher, Shannahan, Holmgren and the other big name coaches. I want a guy who will inspire our team to play on another level, who will take us to the promised land. That is what this post is about, taking this team in a new, positive direction, restoring our storied history and making us damn proud to be PhinPhans, giving us once again the chance to brag to Pat/Bill/Jets fans about how much better we are.

We CAN do it, but it needs to be done RIGHT. Quick fixes will NOT solve the problem, but will merely prolong them. Come on Wayne, lets DO THIS, i know you can!

Why don't we trade our #2 for AJ Feeley?:sidelol:

*totally shameless bump*

want to see some opinions. This is a turning point for our franchise (again). We screwed up with Saban, lets see if we can get it right this time!
