Now This Trade I Really Like......

There are a lot of likeable players on this team. Drake is one of them. He’s exciting and produced one of the most amazing dolphins plays ever last year with the miracle in Miami. But it’s clear that the interior OL is just not there, and the running game will suffer because of it. I certainly don’t think he’s easily replaced, or it will be a non issue if he isn’t on the team, but he’s in the last year of his contract, I doubt he’ll be resigned, and he will likely generate a mid round pick if traded to a needy team to the Texans. And that’s what we spent on him. Plus the possibility of a package deal that involves Clowney is intriguing. I would pull the trigger on this one.
 
If Miami could trade Stills, Drake and a mid-round pick to Houston for Clowney that seems like a no-brainer. I do think Drake has tremendous upside. Both him and Stills were criminally underutilized by Gase last year. But the Dolphins have some depth at wide receiver and probably won't keep Drake anyway when his contract comes due. Ballage could probably put up similar numbers.

I guess the bigger question is if Houston would do that deal?
 
Isn't it true that Clowney would play on a franchise tag contract this season and that can no longer be renegotiated? So he's a free-agent next year. If you want him so bad, just wait and sign him in free agency in 2020. Trading for Clowney makes zero sense except for playoff contenders on a one-year rental.

You can still extend him but it still makes zero sense.

**Maybe not? Assumed only Texans couldn’t extend but apparantely after July 15th, even a trading team can’t extend**

Yea thats a tough one, not sure Clowney has much leverage.

Clowney trade intrigues me too. But Drake Stills and a pick to much. Now if they wanted to throw in a Zack Fulton and we kept our pick (depending on what rd 6-7 ok) I'd be talkin with them.
We just drastically need some good OL. For the OL benefit and the QB to evaluate benefit...
 
An interesting stat about Clowney, states he one of the premier run stoppers at his position over the last couple of seasons. I was extremely surprised about that. Thinking he was more of a pass rusher. I can see why the Dolphins F/O likes him. He'll bring the coveted versatility and run stop prowess they look for. But Clowney always seems to get hurt and for a price tag of an anticipated $100M, I hope Miami passes.
 
I'm ok with trading Drake but only for a pick. I doubt this team wants to trade for Clowney knowing how much that'd cost. That's the splash move that T-dumn and Iralend used to make. Do this and they'd show that they haven't learnt a thing. Build thru the draft with more picks. Once you're one or two players away then I can see getting a top name like him.

Exactly. I like and respect the heck out of Brian Miller, but I completely disagree with his idea of Drake, a receiver (Stills) and a pick for Clowney. I just don't want Clowney that badly, especially with no contract in place.
 
NO to Clowney. Expensive, injury prone, FA next season. Why would you trade for him this season? But trading Drake, of course! He a FA next year and we aren't winning the Super Bowl this year.
 
If we cant get an extension or new contract on Clowney, i'm out.

Not looking for a one year rental, id rather get picks.
