How come the Pats can put anyone they want on their offensive line, the rookie RT (O'Callaghan) and Dolphin castoff Billy Yates (who could never crack Miami's starting lineup), yet they can protect Brady so well he could eat a sandwich back there prior to throwing the ball. We can't even field 5 that can give protection nearly that good. Seriously, do you think Yates and O'Callaghan are more talented than our RT, LT or RG???

I noticed Brady is calling out the protections much like Peyton Manning does. It seems to work very well for both of them, why don't we try something like that???

The Pats' OL is built just like Denver's... lots of guys between 295 and 305 pounds who are agile.

They're very well coached.

Brady makes them look better than they are because he's got that Marino-like ability to sense pressure and slide away from it.

Offensive linemen have to be quick, athletic and smart. The ones we have are big, cumbersome and not too bright.

Exactly. Our linemen are so big they lack the athleticism to adequately pass protect and open holes in the running game. Joe Thomas anyone?

Big linemen can be athletic, and are actually better for opening up holes in the running game. I don't know why our line can't do better running the ball. With our big OL, they should be ramming it down everyone's throat.

:sidelol:

Damn that was cold and true.

A couple of years ago, the Patriots also started Dolphins cast-off Grey Ruegamer. Tony Wise was a bad o-line coach. Supposedly he's with the Jets now. He was Wannstadt's best friend. Maybe Wannstadt couldn't yell at him because of that. Unclear.

In 2004, Spielman wanted Wise fired. Bates switched to a Zone blocking system... like Denver has, and like we still use today... and the o-line improved. Our o-line is still ranked better than it was in 2004... but it seems like we've started the wrong guys at the wrong spots this year.

First off NE is a threat to throw. Miami is not right now. Teams can't line 8 in the box against them. NE will actually line up 3 WR's AND Watson and Faulk or 4 WR's for many plays. Last night they were in shot gun 1st down into the 4th qtr with a 4 WR spread offense. ANd they were winning 31-7! Miami's offense is so conservative - we NEVER spread a D out until the 4th qtr when we are down by at least 10.

Second - maybe our OLine coach is a bit overrated. He worked with Linehan and Mularkey and has below avg results with both. Is it the O system or the blocking schemes within? Look at Chris Gray starting with Seattle. How is that possible? It's obvious when you see this that our system and coaching is not comparable.

Everyone keeps talking about spending a high 1st rd pick on an OL guy - NO WAY!! How about getting a real OC who will bring in his OWN coaching staff to run HIS offense. If a player can't learn it then he shouldn't be on the team. Half of NE's WR's last night weren't even on the roster in camp.

Play calling, A qb that is accurate and gets rid of the ball, throws to his team not the db, recievers who catch, running backs who break tackles all help.
