If we end up starting James at RG and Turner at RT, and they play well, will anyone be upset by where they were picked?

Of course not. The play well part is what got me. I still think we need to sign 1 more vet. guard for insurance.

Are you under the impression that this hasn't already been discussed in a few other threads?

If BOTH of them start all year AND play well, I will take back all the negative things I said about this draft.

i don't care if my mom gets drafted in the 1st round to play OL if she plays well then its all that matters. Where they were picked is irrelevant, i just want the OL to play well

I'm generally an optimist when it comes to the Dolphins and sometimes I get called a homer for it. But the level of optimism for these two draftee OL is ridiculously over the top. I honestly cannot fathom it.

Firstly, James isn't bad, but he also isn't this plug nd play pro bowler so many seem to think he is. The kid has sloppy footwork, sloppy positioning, and poor work ethic. If there was an anti-Cam Wake type on our team, it would be up for grabs between Dallas Thomas and JuWan James. Let's face it, James needs to tighten up and get with the program or he could end up being almost as bad of a player as Jonathan Martin was as our RT.

James lacks power and is definitely not a good run blocker. Lamar Miller is relieved we didn't draft a RB, but I assure you he is not excited about once again having no run lanes outside right.

James was simply bigger and longer than everyone he faced in college. He is hard to get around just like McKinnie was ... but James is no great pass pro guy ... He is simply decent at it with a high ceiling mostly because of his arm length.

Don't expect greatness right away, because that's not who this guy is right now.

Turner actually looks like he has the potential to be a player to me, but this kid is raw. Clearly he is an OG to me. He has heavy hands, good ability to locate downfield, and wonderful tools. But, he was always bigger and quicker than the guy across from him in college and when he faces mediocre NFL players with better tools, he will need to develop better technique.

Guys like Nick Fairley, Dominique Easley, Marcel Dareus and Muhammad Wilkerson will wreck this kid until his technique gets up to par. And in the NFL, the guys who don't have as good tools will exploit even the smallest flaws in technique, so he's going to be in for a rocky start even when protected between two good veterans at LG.

If he were to get snaps at OT this year it would be disastrous. Let's let this kid develop as an OG first, because honestly, he has a lot to learn yet.

We need to be dominant on 1st and 2nd downs. Because, neither Albert nor James is a particularly good run blocker and both are poor in short yardage pile moving. Turner has some sand in his pants, but only Shelley is good at it.

I have a lot of faith in Benton ... but we need to avoid getting carried away with our expectations of these two rookies.

[Edited to fix spelling of Dallas Thomas' name and avoid confusion]

I'm thinking the same on running outside, and hoping that Sims steps up to help us there. Unfortunately, I'm thinking the same on running inside, which is why I would love to trade for Mathis. We have not been good in developing guys on the OL, and I'm sure Benton will help. I just believe he will need some time, and see the OL as a big ? going into this year.

what are you talking about JETS8ER?

james is a RIGHT TACKLE and was drafted to play RIGHT TACKLE.

billy turner is most likely starting at LEFT GUARD. he played left tackle in college and is used to playing [and doing it very well] on that side. turner said he prefers to play guard in the nfl so that coupled with the fact james is going to play rt and turners experience on the left side, its not hard to figure that one out.

no matter what, both were great pics.

James is a day one starter...anybody who doubts that must not have seen any of his 49 starts at RT in the SEC.

Billy also has a good shot at LG...I don't see them putting two rookies side by side if it does happen.

Agree with some of the posters opinions, although Im a little more optimist. I also see Turner as a Guard, more likely a LG. I see our O-line as:

LT:Albert LG:Turner C:pouncy RG:Shelley RT:James

And to me, that looks like a much better looking line than the one we had last year.

You can argue when he was selected...but James is a solid RT.

I get a little tired of people that get caught up in 40 times and bench press numbers.

Neither of which is a true indicator of football strength or quickness.

In the NFL, it has been proven over and over again that rookies on the OL mostly take a year to get stronger, and adapt to the competition level. With the spread offense being prevalent, most do not come in with the ability to run block, as they have not done it that much. I do not believe you can count on any OL coming in and playing well their first year, no matter where they were picked. Top 10 picks have proven that.

James pass protection makes him a plug and play will he struggle? Maybe what rookie doesn't but he is plug and plug its been echoed by hoops by ck. By any draft guru you wanna cite
