IMO I think Oakland would be best served to take CJ with the #1 overall pick, and then try to pick up a QB either via trade (C-Pep) or in the 2nd round. If they go with Russell he will give them a strong arm, but really how different is he versus Jeff George when he came out back in the early 90's? The QB position is about decision making, reading defenses, being a leader, and being accurate and being able to pass the ball into very small windows to the open receiver. One of the things every college player comments on about the NFL is about how much faster everything is in the NFL.

I think a lot of people have become enamored by Russell's arm and it is an absolute cannon, but look at Montana, Hassleback, Brady, Brees... and they have good arms but are great at reading defenses and have outstanding accuracy. Having said that I think that we might be able to pull off a trade with Oakland IF Quinn is still on the board or even Adrian Peterson. What if at #9 one of those two players is still there? IMO I would make the call to Oakland prior to the draft and let them know that we will trade them the #9 pick as well as C-Pep, and if they know this ahead of time before the draft they can take Johnson and still get a QB. If Quinn is still there at #9 they could take him to be their QB, and for doing so we would pick up the following in trade:

Oakland would get our #9 overall, C-Pep, and our 4th round pick

Miami would get the following - Oakland's 2nd round, 3rd round, and 4th round pick in 2007, and Oakland's #1 in 2008.

Based on the draft value table a 2008 1st round pick would be worth a 2nd rounder (approx 550-700 points)

By doing this we would essentially be getting a late 1st, late 2nd, 1st pick on day 2, and a 1st round pick in 2008 for giving up Duante and our 1st rounder. This would make sense for Oakland, and it would be a great move for us IMO because we would add picks and have a pair of #1's for 2008. In the 2nd round we could address our QB position with one of our (3) 2nd round picks, we could add line and WR help in the 3rd, and we would get a prized pick in the 4th which would be the best first pick of day 2. On top of that we would have pretty much a top 10 pick for 2008 to use on either Brohm or Henne at QB, Long at LT, or Philips at safety. This would help our team more in the long run than any other move, and it would also make sense for Oakland because they could take Johnson at WR and also get the QB they need.

Your post has little to no merit. You fail to back up your claim with any facts. You mentioned reading defenses and a bunch of other things, as if to imply that Russel is incapable of doint that, yet don't back up this implication with any facts.

Pure nonsense. Since when was it decided that Russell made bad decisions, could not read defenses, and the funniest of all, was not accurate?

are you kidding? :sidelol: :sidelol: if u think they should take Johnson than what makes you think they are going to trade down to the number 9 pick? Johnson is said to be the best player in the draft there is no way he would every slip down to 5 or 6 let alone 9. And then you say that they can take Brady Quinn if he slips down to 9 and we trade picks with them...why would they take the #9 pick to hope and pray that Quinn falls to them at 9 when they have a sure shot at getting whoever they want with the #1 pick....please tell me your joking with this post....i guess your entitled to your opinion, but next time back it up a little better:shakeno:

JG - I think you took my post the wrong way, and I am not saying that Russell cannot do these things. What I am saying is that a lot of people are looking at the howizter the kid has and not looking at everything else. I have seen him play live and I work with college football teams especially in the south and the SEC. If you look deeper into his numbers you will see he killed teams like Kentucky 83% completion percentage, Miss State 90% completion percentage, and he lit up a bad Notre Dame team in the Sugar Bowl; however, what people don't remember is they scored 3 points against Auburn, and he threw 3 picks each against the two best teams he played last year in Florida and Tennessee. He is a great QB and worth a top 10 selection, but if I am Oakland I can take the sure thing in Johnson and get a QB the next round.

Fintip - you need to put down the Pokemon cards and let your parents have their computer back for the evening. Not only did you miss my point, but you added absolutely nothing to the conversation except your whining and crying. Next time bring something a little stronger and good luck in school tomorrow.

Ronn - I will type slow since you cannot read very well. Where did I say they would take Johnson at #9? They use the #1 overall pick on Johnson, and then we trade our #9 to them for the picks I mentioned in the post. Read the post first and then get back to me. The first line says that "Oakland takes CJ with the #1 overall pick." Thanks for playing.

u said that they should take johnson and then you said they should trade down to number 9...so obviously you cant read....ill type it one more time for you....if they should take johnson then what makes you think they are going to trade down to the #9 pick....and thank you for playing.... (and just so you know genius, whether you type fast or slow doesnt make a difference, your still typin the same thing... )

Show me where I said they should trade down? I said that they should take CJ #1, and we would contact them about the #9 spot. Go read my entire post and prove me wrong, and once you actually R-E-A-D it you will see thee is not a trade down scenario. Plain and simple we are offering Oakland the #9 spot for their 2nd, 3rd, swap 4th rounders and their 1st round pick in 2008. Not hard to understand if you read the entire post before assuming, and all bad reading and eyesight aside on your part the merits of the post are solid. We take advantage of a team that needs a QB, and rather than take a QB in Quinn who has very little upside left we gain picks this year as well as a 1st rounder next year to go after Brohm, Henne, Long, or McFadden as trade. Also, your fast or slow line made absolutely no sense - you have to do better than that once you get out of middle school or you will get manhandled by freshmen and heavy cheerleaders for your lunch money:D

That is one of the more interesting scenarios that I have read lately. Might be okay. How does it grade out on the draft pick value chart?

middle school? first of all buddy im not even in high school, so you should probably know what your talking about before you say it, and stop trying to act like a tough guy over the computer. and if we did go ahead and give up culpepper and our #9 we dont have a qb, we dont have trent green yet so dont bring him up, and who says hes going to last the whole year with his head injury? so word it any way you want, your wrong, plain and simple

According to the draft value table it is about even with C-Pep thrown in. Our #9 overall is worth 1350 points and I am putting a value of a 3rd rounder on Daunte - 225 points.

If you take Oakland's 2nd (580 points) and 3rd (266 points) there is a deficit of 504 points. A second round pick this year is usually worth one round higher in 2008, so the 500+ points for a fairly high 2nd this year equals a #1 from Oakland next year. Both teams would benefit by it, and what it does to Oakland is gets them thinking they can solve their QB problem and also take CJ for a decent price. They are switching their 2nd rounder and 3rd rounder for our #9 this year and a #1 next year. The key thing I want out of them is an extra 1st in 2008 to be able to solve our QB position once and for all with Brohm. We can get the WR and o-line pieces this year with (3) #2's after this deal and with a pair of #3's and the first pick in the 4th. The draft is about getting more value for your picks than they are worth, and when you do get the picks it is about making sure your GM and scouts have done their jobs in suggesting the right players.

Now you are changing your story with the "we don't have a QB talk". I am still waiting for you to back up your claims that I said we were trading down. Your comments had no validity whatsoever, and just as a newsflash everyone knows we are going to sign Green, dump C-Pep, and draft a QB in the first 3 rounds.

Please put me in my place and back up your claims that I said we were going to trade down. Everyone can see my original post at the top, and nowhere does it say for Oakland to give up their #1 overall and trade down for our #9. Still waiting for your proof.......

I responded by noting that your implication that Russell could not do these things is nonsense. Even a casual football fan knows this. I didn't miss your point, I just called it out for what is was: garbage.

Actually, I "DO" believe OAK "WILL" draft Calvin Johnson. But it will be so that CLE and TB will toss them the house in order to trade up for him.

This way, OAK will aquire players and/or picks and drop to either #3 or #4 and still get to draft either Russell or Quinn.

Mark these words: OAK WILL DRAFT CALVIN JOHNSON SO THAT THEY CAN TRADE DOWN WITH EITHER CLE OR TAMPA BAY!!!!

YOU HEARD IT HERE, FIRST!!!!!!!!!!
