Still Perfect.. and You're Not.
The Miami Dolphins have had one of the most productive off-seasons they have had in recent memory. They hired good coaching, improved the draft status, improved the salary cap situation, and signed a few key players.
First, the signing of Cam Cameron will do this team and especially the offense great benefits. Cameron is a smart offensive mind and feel that the production of Culpepper, Chambers, and Brown will increase drastically. Resigning Dom Capers to a 3 year extension was a brilliant move by the Dolphins' brass. Cam is allowing Randy Muellar to do his job, something that Nick Saban wouldn't allow. The first thing they did was get rid of old high cap players such as Kevin Carter, Jeno James, Bennie Anderson, Seth McKinney, and Joey Harrington. Also, they made a tough decision by releasing a fan favorite in tigh end Randy McMichael. But to be honest Randy McMichael was getting paid as one of the best at his position when in realiity he was just in the middle of the pack. They were smart enough to resign key contributers to our #4 ranked defense and some offensive people such as Vonnie Holliday, Keith Traylor, Yeremiah Bell,Donnie Jones, Mike Lehan, Kevin Vickerson, and Cleo Lemon. As well as bring in players such as Jay Feeley, Cory Schlesinger, David Martin, and the biggest being superstar linebacker Joey Porter. Cam and Randy still have tough decisions to make on players such as Olindo Mare, Ricky Williams, and Manuel Wright. And lets not say they don't have a lot of work to do on the offensive line because they do; They also have G Matt Lehr in town as we speak. They smartest thing they did was not overpay for Kris Dielman, Derrick Dockery, Eric Steinbach, or Leonard Davis.
They want to build through the draft so they traded Dan Wilkinson to Denver for a 6th round pick and the overachieving Wes Welker to New England for a 2nd and 7th round draft picks. The 2nd we received for Wes is highway robbery. Will Joey Porter be as dominate in the past? Will Culpepper return healthy? There are many questions but the question I ask is can the 2007 Miami Dolphins be like the 2006 New Orleans Saints? Like them we have a superstar Quarterback returning from a major injury but overall we have more talent. Like them we have an brilliant offensive minded coach with his first gig as the main man. Our defense is much superior to theirs and overall I believe we have better receivers. I think that if Culpepper returns to form or even close to form that we are going to be an elite team in the league. The players want C-Pepp, the fans want C-Pepp, give him a chance before you write him off. I feel that last years expectation were a bit premature but those expectation could be met this year as we are a team under the raider with a pretty easy schedule that features two games against the Bills and Jets, and games against the Raiders, Browns, Texans, Giants, Eagles, Redskins and Steelers. I like our chances
