I really don't like anything about offense:

1. The scheme/play calling: plain and simple it sucks. I don't see any rhyme or reason to anything we do. The offense is just so predicable.

2. Offensive Line: The line has played alot better as of late, but its still not good. We need a franchise left tackle really really badly. A left guard would be nice too.

3. Wide receivers: I think the strength of the offensive side of the ball is the wide receivers. While I think chambers often doesn't show any fight, and while booker falls down when the wind blows they still aren't that bad. Welker is great, hagan is a promising rookie. I would still look to add a starting receiver to this mix, but it wouldn't be a first day pick. Too many other needs. I would add a TE for sure, mcmichael is ok but another guy that doesn't have great hands.

4. Running back: This is where I am going to get in trouble, I like Ronnie I guess but I just don't see him capable of carrying the load. I think a priority this offseason is to draft a running back that is going to be the 2nd running back. I wat ched morris run yesterday and saw some things that I haven't seen from ronnie, which I thought was totally sad and an indicator that ronnie should be playing better. I see ronnie in the same light as chambers: thats talented but for whatever reason just doesn't take that next step.

I would really concentrate on the offense in the offseason, but we need some help on defense too. Particularly at LB and Cornerback.

Why do people always say that the playcalling suck? Do they have a playbook? What plays would they call? What play was called? I guess the players don't study film nor do the coaches.

Yea, alot of times people don't know what the heck they are talking about when they say the playcalling sucks. I questioned Mulark earlier in the season for some crap, but I definitely wouldn't mind him sticking around another year . . . this offense could use some familiarity going into next season . . . it would be an unforgettable mistake if we switch coordinators in the offseason and start the same slow crap next season.

Yes,
I guess I just need to get myself a playbook and study it so I can bash it like some of these other fans, I mean people.:D

I think it was one preseason game, where both backs went one way and AJ Feeley went the other and some people were bashing AJ for that one:confused: . How did these people know what the play call was?

The problem is that Mularkey has failed to develop a running mentality with the short passing game. This offense "features" Joey and that's a problem. Too many games have been lost because we abandon the run and let Joey throw dink passes from the shotgun and that is Mularkey's fault. The long pass to Chambers was a "rollout". It's obvious that Joey cannot develop "pocket presence" if he has to hold onto the ball too long. He simply can't do it! So let's move him around, rollouts, bootlegs, runs, and get Joey moving. You know he does have good mobility for a QB. But Mularkey refuses to see it. You can get away with the short passes for one drive a game and that's what we do, but when teams adjust and take it away, we're stuck with one TD drive per game.:fire:

If Joey doesn't throw two HORRIBLE interceptions yesterday, we probably win that game....the play calling would not be questioned until the next loss. Its funny how the play calling was 'good' during the 4 game winning streak but has now reverted back to the same play calling that occured in the previous 6 losses. So let me get this straight...when we win, the play calling is fine. And when we lose, it's bad. Yeh, that makes alot of sense.

ONe thing I wills say is . . . Mularky likes to run up the middle ala Pittsburgh Steelers and Bettis . . . unfortunately on this team that is the weakest part of our line by far . . so that takes away Mulark's identity right there . . . so he tends to abandon the run and let Joey make plays. He doesn't quite have the personnel to run some of the plays he wants to do and he needs to work with Nick and Houck to get a MEAN OLine up front . . . some real bangers in there . . . and then he can run that power football he wants to run.

Talk about making sense........

a coach is only as good as his players and his players are only as good as their coach.

The play calling was still not good during the 4 game winning streak. Geeze this wasn't even that long ago, the DEFENSE won 3 of those 4 games desipite the offense. The lions game was the only game the offense produced...

Just wondering, what plays would you call? Since your bashing the playcalling, what would you run?

After saying that, I have to go to work.:D

Ok, then why wanst the play calling questioned as much during the win streak?

I'll tell you the style of offense I would run:

I would run a 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB set as our base offense. That is our most talented formation. That would be chambers/booker/welker/mcmichael/ronnie. I would also run a no huddle/hurry up offense ALOT, not all the time but alot. I would also almost never use the shotgun, I hate it and I truely believe it just makes it too easy for the defense because it limits your options on offense. I would also use the draw play alot more, and fake the draw play when passing.

As far what plays to call, well that really depends on what is working and not working. This is where I have a problem with Mularkey. He just doesn't seem to have a feel for the talent on the team or understand the game situation. We have had more than just a few games where we abandon the run completely and have a quarterback named joey harrington throwing the ball every down from the shotgun, this makes me puke. I am not sure what else I can say :)
