we could not run the ball at all in the playoffs if you can't run the ball or stop the run you will not go far in the playoffs.yes we need a true#1 wr so they can't stack the box but we need a couple defensive playmakers to help joey out and get some really mean o-line guys up front we have two great rb's it's a shame we could not run the ball at all if we could have run the ball chad would not have to sling the ball all over the place.we need chad to protect the ball manage the game let the defence set the tone and then run the ball when they know we are going to and not be able to stop it.........

Center is the TOP priority on the o-line. Satele was blown up far too many times and was bulled into the backfield over and over which screwed up running plays. Then we have to build up both guard spots. We don't know if Smiley will be the same player since he suffered a severe injury and Ndukwe and Alleman are nothing but backups. Shawn Murphy is an unknown yet but his rookie season was a washout.

i think upgrading the o-line would have the most beneficial impact on the team.

it would open up a running game, which would take pressure off our receivers and protect the QB better. all will help us control and win games.

Center from Baltimore or Max Unger at #25 or Caldwell;Eric Wood in 3rd round. thats it. Perfect year to look for a Center.

I think we can get Unger in the 2nd round. I wouldn't mind getting someone like Sintim first, and Unger in the 2nd.

Yeah Unger or Mack would be great, every day I pray another college standout will declare, increasing the chance he gets pushed downward to us! Imagine if we sign a great center along with Long it would be the start of a great Oline for at least a decade, assuming he pans out.

I think a lot of people on here will be surprised as Satele is announced as the starting center in the fall. He has been given a TON of wrongful blame for the problems of the running game this year. He is every bit as big as 3 out of the 4 all pro centers this year if not bigger at over 300 pounds. He is also ONLY barely 24 (December). So, he WILL get stronger.

It is way way too soon to think he won't continue to improve on an already pretty good start to his career.

We need better backups at guard than we had last year.

THAT was where the problem was. NOT Satele.

And remember, big 330 pound centers are great run blockers maybe. But, they suck at pass blocking. Penny isn't exactly mobile. Do, you want him getting killed every time he drops back because the center gets blown up?

Satele is a damn good pass blocking center. He is adequate at run blocking now and will only get better at that. Let's not waste a high pick on a position that ISN'T going to prevent us from winning a SB. Satele is plenty good enough with solid guards for us to have a dominant run game. And he is very smart as well and very quick according to Sparano.

Those are two traits you MUST have in a quality center.

Satele can't hold his own. Any time we're matched up against a decent NT, he gets killed. Look at the 2nd NE game, the Baltimore game, etc.

He'd be a much better fit at Guard.

I woud rather see a veteran picked up in the free agency and a center in the late rounds who can be developed. the veteran can have an instant affect on the team rather than risking an early pic on someone who will take time to develop. we have shown we can get to the playoffs and to take it all the way our o-line needs to improve and a FA would be the best option for that

Most good NGs get double teamed. But, against Wilfork, I saw Satele stalemate the guy one on one several times and didn't get beat. Against Baltimore, Ngata (who is the REAL reason why Baltimore is an awesome defense not Lewis or Reed) was NOT beating Satele but, the two guards.

Baltimore was smart and was lining him up over either Ndukwe or Alleman a lot of the time.

I guy like that MUST be doubled up and given help to ANY center in the NFL if he is on the center.

The truth is, it was Ndukwe and Alleman getting beat regurlarly on those plays you are talking about. But, it creates no hype if the media types point out that Miami had their backups in there.

So, they would rather blame the one starter that was left-Satele.

The fact that Miami won those last few games while Satele was the ONLY good interior lineman playing, tells you a TON about how good Satele really is. If Satele was as bad as some of you people are thinking, Miami wouldn't have gained 319 yards with 126 on the ground against the Jets (Jenkins BTW) or 403 yards with 168 yards on the ground against the Chiefs OR averaged 4.5 per rush against the 49ers OR allowed Penny to complete 23 of 29 while being sacked only once against the Bills to win ALL of those games AFTER losing Smiley. If Satele didn't play well in ALL of those games, we would have lost at least one and missed the playoffs.

Let's give Satele credit where credit is due.

your starting to change my mind a bit. I have to admit I have begun to loose a bit of confidence in satele. I had thrown around the idea of moving to one of the guard spots, but if what you say is true, than we don't need to waste a pick on a center, especially in the first round.

I am hoping now that one of the stud LB fall to us. I had my eyes set on vontae davis from illinois for awhile now, because I think we need to get a better corner.
But we also need a safety to pair with YBell.
theres more holes on the defense than I anticipated, and we need to address them as soon as possible.

We need a LB.
a ball hawk safety and a shutdown corner.
NT... to replace fergie, who is gettin up there as well.

we may be waiting til next year to shore up the offense through the draft.

good post, thanks for the insight, I'm gonna go back and watch some film of those games and find the true culprit.
