I think the o-line played extremely well under new line coach hudson houck but I also think it can get better.

It will all come down no this two questions:
1-is seth mckinney good or great?
2- is vernon carey really a tackle or is better suited to play guard?

with that in mind my two quick answers are no and no so.......

lt lj shelton
lg jeno james
c rex hadnto
rg vernon carey
rt damion mcintosh

On paper that seems to be the best OL we have, but I'm not sold completely on Mcintosh..it would seem he should do better on the right, but...

shelton is still a risk to me too..he hasn't of yet established himself as an elite LT, that's why he's been available the last couple of season..now if houck can get him to his potential we really may have something here.

dont be surprised to see Mike Pearson as our starting Right Tackle

LT -- Shelton
LG -- James
C -- Hadnot
RG -- Toledo
RT -- McIntosh

If Houck can get a 7th round guy to start at right TACKLE in San Diego (Shane Olivea), he can sure as hell get a FOURTH round guy to start at right GUARD. And McIntosh beats out Carey due to Carey's poor work ethic. Saban don't stand for that ****.

You guys do know that we were at the top of the entire NFL in fewest sacks given last year while both backs averaged 4.4 yards a carry don't you? The thing that killed them last year was false starts and penalties that were almost nonexisting at the end of the year. Don't fix what isn't broke but my surprise pick is Berger.

He does have injury concerns, but I agree, nobody is taking Pearson seriously as a starter, and that may be a bit premature, or shortsighted. I personally would love to see him healthy and prove enough to crack the starting position at either tackle position.

as long as Pearson is healthy like you said, the only thing i think that could hold him back is the new system. correct me if i'm wrong, but isnt our offensive line scheme a little more simple as of last year? and dont we run more a zone blocking scheme? or was that before H.H.?

Right, but it still wasn't a DOMINANT line. With Hadnot at center, Toledo at RG (who has tremendous lower body explosion by the way), and McIntosh sliding over to RT with Shelton taking his place at LT, we have a chance to have a dominant line.

Whatever works for Houck is fine with me. I would love to have a line like Emmit did in Dallas so Ronnie can take the yard record.

Where's Carey? Toledo seems more like a project that will take a couple of years to mold. I like Hadnot at center if he can beat out McKinney. If that were to happen I think Carey would move to RG leaving McIntosh and Pearson to battle for the RT spot. Guys like Alabi and W.Smith may step it up this year too. No matter who starts, we will have a good starting line and really good depth.

Toledo has never played guard and sure as hell won't come in and beat somebody out at a position he has never played in his first year. The only position I predict for Toledo if he plays is IR since he has spent so much time injured in college.

Yo Carey was playing extremely well for the latter part of the season, I think he is more suited at RG, where he will be a staple in this offense, Him and James, I love that guard combo, Shelton could be the steal of the offseason after Houck is done with him, and Hadnot performed superb late last year . . those 4 are definite starters from my point of view, the battle will be for Right Tackle and it will be between Macintosh and Pearson.

People don't sleep on Carey . . u do realize he is just entering his third season in the NFL now (feels like he has been here for years tho). . and he was a first rounder, the talent is there . . he will be a staple on this line for years . . when we drafted him we knew he wasn't 100 percent NFL ready but had potential, I think we will see him dominate some this year. Him, Shelton and James are obvious, I would take Hadnot at center, but Nick likes sweaty Seth for some reason to sign him to a pretty decent contract, so I don't know.

Here's what I'm hoping for:

LT - Shelton
LG - James
C - Hadnot
RG - Carey
RT - Pearson

Depth: McIntosh, McKinney, Toledo, Smith, Alabi, Pape

What a long way this unit has come in the last 2 years.
