I don't post often but this year in and out offensive blunder has made me ponder how year after year we have a solid defense and never a solid offense. So, I looked to the draft. Since 1999 we have drafted a total of 3 players in the first round at offensive skills positions. (Brown, Ginn, and Tannehill). Some of the best teams in the NFL offensively drafted their qb and drafted skills positions to surround him and maybe brought in a big time free agent. The Saints drafted Grahm, Colston, and Cooks and Bree's came in FA. Falcons drafted Roddy, Julio, Ryan in the first round and drafted Harry Douglas, brought in Hester and Steven Jackson. Basically my point is that we expect a better offense year in and year out when all we do is bring in a big name free agent (Wallace, Marshall, Bush) while the rest of our offense is full of mid and late rounders at the skills positions. Our draft philsophy contradicts how you build a great offense.

Partly players but also coaching. We have had defensive coaches as our head coach since Shula left. Philbin was supposed to be offensive and so far he has been anything but.

Bottom line is we haven't had a good offense consistently since Don Shula left. Many will say Shula offensive genius was all Marino. But if you look back at Don Shula's teams offensively they were always better than average even without Marino. In 32 years Don Shula's team only dropped into the 20's in rankings (yards gained and points scored) 1 time. 21 other times we were in the top ten. Even in the down years our lowest ranking would be the league average in the teens. Shula would never run out the clock in Buffalo like Philbin did. He would pull out a flea flicker play and score a TD before halftime. To me this one web page shows what our offensive woes are. Note the Off Rank (Pts and Yds) and how they dip immediately when Shula retires and then never return to anywhere near what Shula was able to accomplish. The last 5 years have been pitful

I don't know. Philbin has been pretty offensive to me.

The Dolphins have started 37 possessions on offense this year in 3 games. In these 37 chances they have only drove the field and scored 6 times. 2 TD's and 4 FG's, 26 points.
All of the rest of the points are a result of defensive turnovers and a short field, or special teams. You just aren't going to win much when the offense can only muster 8-9 points per game by themselves.
