I'm more excited for the FA leaks than the workouts tbh.

This right here is the only reason I care about the NFL Combine. GMs, coaches, and agents all get together and have pow wows and figure out who's going where.

Combine provides a ton of information...yes it is the underwear Olympics, but it does help confirm some things about players as far as their speed and agility. Some results (particularly explosive tests and the agility drills) are good indicators. Interviews are important aat these as well as getting a legit size measurement on some of these players.

Bets on what prospects see their stock take a nosedive?

This year seems to have a lot of player at the top who are also high-end athletes that should test well

I tend to agree. Either a player can play or he can't. The combine doesn't tell you much in that regard

The combine is over-rated

Yes and no. Parts of the combine are overrated but it's also the first chance to talk to kids and learn about them.

The combine is what the team makes of it. The teams that are consistently good use their interview time to break down film with players. The teams that suck tend to not take that portion seriously

Love the speed part of the combine, but I'm a big track and field guy as well.

I do think the combine gets overrated at times. As a team I'd use it to flush out players of essentially equal values. It's also pretty important for the small school guys who are harder to project.

All it does is overrate certain players because they run a fast 40 like Hayward-Bey comes to mind. The 40 rocketed him into the top 10 I believe. Big bust

Absolutely. The big disconnect with guys like us in regards to evaluating prospects is that we don't know these players. I have no idea how much of a nightmare they are in real life - and if they are - the chances of them turning their life around with no supervision and a fat wallet.

Dalvin Cook has a chance to be great in the NFL. And reports are he's finally got his head on straight. Do I believe that after those two ugly incidents? Without talking to him, **** no. As of right now I wouldn't touch him. But after a chance to sit down with him and see where his priorities are, who knows.

I tend to think South Beach is not conducive for the weak willed. Guys that didn't have issues in college come to Miami and are problematic. See Misi and Pouncey. And I'm expected to think guys with a checkered past can come and get it together? Not so much. One on one time with players is invaluable. Cannot be overstated. Using that time to ask if a player's mom is a hooker is an offense fireable on the spot. ****ing Ireland ...

Also, the workout drills for certain positions are uber important. I loved Trae Waynes coming out. But he did seem a bit stiff to me even if he could fly going in a straight line. His workouts confirmed my suspicions and he went from a 1st to 3rd for me. Minnesota saw first hand what happens when you draft a corner in the 1st round that can't stay with receivers step for step. His other tools are so high end that he might be able to overcome those hips with work, but I doubt it.

Jarvis Jones is another one that jumps out to me. I thought he was the best player in college football coming out. Unstoppable at Georgia. But his combine was freaking lunacy. I thought his dog died or something that day it was so bad. And sure enough he hasn't been able to overcome his athletic limitations.

And let's not forget that pathetic workout and bench press that Jonathan Martin queefed out there. Calling him soft is an insult to pillows after that tragedy. He fell totally off my board after that. And then we draft him in the 2nd. Typical.

I could go on and on - as the combine and draft are 2 of my favorite weeks of the year - with examples of the importance of those few days. Even for someone who watches a ton of college football like me, I miss stuff. Lots of stuff. This is the time to get questions answered. Short story long, the combine is important.
