The big money supporters for UM have finally stepped up. It is costing $8 million to buy out the remaining years of the Diaz contract and another $9 million to buy out Cristobal‘s contact at Oregon.
They are also reported to be paying Cristobal over $8 million dollars a year. This is the type of money UM has NEVER been able to pay top tier head coaches to take the job and why they always seem to go after the less expensive head coaching candidates.

Now they just have to also spend the money to bring in the top tier assistant coaches.

Good get for Miami. Won't solve local recruiting but should help keep some guys in the area. Definitely an upgrade from Manny.

Well you can all thank Kirk Herbstreit for calling out the Miami administration earlier this season on national television.

Kirk says you're welcome.
Kirk was right to call out the University but without the big money backers of UM putting up the money, it wouldn’t have mattered what Herbstreit said. The school would never have paid the type of money needed to fire Diaz, buyout the contracts of both Diaz and Cristobal and sign Cristobal for at least $8 million a year.

Thankfully for all UM fans, the billionaire supporters of UM were as frustrated with the football team as the long suffering fans of the Canes have been.

Cristobal has done an excellent job recruiting at Oregon and has a 2022 class which is ranked in the top 10 at this time. I think he will eventually be able to do a better job in recruiting locale talent but it probably won’t happen until the 2023 recruiting class. Since most recruits have also decided where they will sign and the first signing date is next week.

Get Joe Brady at OC.
Watching Oregon, they appeared to be a run first team. Averaging 10 more runs a game than passes. This could have been because they had more faith in their running game than their QB and their receivers but I just wonder if Cristobal is going to try and bring that type offense to Miami.

Hopefully with Van Dyke as the starter, they will remain an offense that relies on the pass more than Oregon did last year.

Wish Manny Diaz the best. Guy really loved the Canes and I was rooting for him but he just wasn't ready. Best of luck to him and hope he gets another head coaching job in the near future
