Say we sign Randall Gay, who should be much less expensive than Samuel and is also a FA. We sign Adalius Thomas, move Carter to DT and start Roth, Wilkinson at NT. R Wright backs up Roth, Evans is 3rd at NT. Keep our S intact bringing Tillman back for cheap to back up Bell.
Keep Carey at RT and Toledo backhim up, Shelton and Fonoti fight out RG, whoever loses is the backup, Hadnot at C, with Jacox as his backup, sign Dielman for LG and have Jacox and whoever is the backup RG double at back up LG, McIntosh at back up LT.
Keep Ronnie and Morris, let Minor go, if Ricky comes back great if not, we wont cry about it.
Cut Cleo, if he is not the solution, he is part of the problem, keep Pepper in case he gets healthy, I dont care if he goes back to probowl form, as long as he is healthy he is better than Harrington, keep Joey AKA The TO Machine, just cause he has a low cap hit and did cost us a 5th rounder, and he is a decent backup.
At receiver we are just fine Welker will be easy to resign since he is an exclusive rights FA, if anything get rid of Russell and teach Vick STs.
At TE we need a second TE, I dont mind Peele, but if anything better is out there bring it, Graham would be nice.
Then I would love this draft:
1rd. Pick #12. Jake Long OT UM
We obviously need a LT and if this guy makes it to our pick, he definately is BPA.
2nd. Pick #12. Jamarcus Russell QB LSU
No matter if Pep gets back to form, he is the better choice and fit for a vertical passing game. Russell who is in his mold, is also a Saban recruit, who has amazing stats against top notch competition in the SEC.
The lack of premier receivers and a run oriented offense hindered his development some, and didnt play up to his strengths. Better known for being in a QB controversy with a then freshman, now sophomore, who is also a better fit for their current offense and the current coachs recruit.
3rd. Pick #12. Marcus Thomas DT UF
Personal issues will surely drop this guy, who knows how far? This would anyways be great value if he lasted this long, remember Luis Castillo and Claude Wroten had similar problems and still got mpicked right where theyre abilities supposed them to, no pemalties over their behavior, so he may not last this long.
This is an important pick since Kevin Carter doesnt have much left, Vickerson and Manny Wright maybe long gone this offseason, Vickerson not having taken a single regular season snap and being an exclusive rights FA who we may not want back.
Considering Thomas may be gone Carricker and McDonald (Thomas teammate) would be other guys who would probably pull this off, and at the very least we should get Justin Harrell out of TN.
4th. Pick #12. Paul Soliai NT Utah
Traylor retires after this season, Wilkinson is a solid starter, though he doesnt have much left on the tank either, our only backup is Fred Evans who has yet to take a single snap on the pros, plus was nothing but a 7th rd pick. We desperately need depth at this spot, though I dont expect either of this guys to become eventual starters.
5th. Pick #12. Gone to Det.
6th. Pick#12. Dan Bazuin DE CMU
Great passrusher, would be a nice situational player, may develop into an eventual starter as an open end, I think Shaun Phillips watching this kid, great motor, great measurables, just not very polished.
7th. Pick#12. Lorenzo Booker RB FSU
Nice change of pace back, great catching of the backfield, despite his size he has been reasonable durable, great speed, may releif Welker from KR, while Welker remains the man at PR.
UDFA Cory Anderson H-Back Tenn is brought in to play FB.
I just dont like Barnes, not a geat blocker, worst catching. Anderson also brings a TEs size.
