Am I the only one who finds the Culpepper - Harrington controversy to be really funny?

On one side are the die hard Daunte supporters. They support Daunte because he has so much "talent" and is a proven entity in the past. Of course, the same fans ignore historical facts about his performance before his injury last year. These same fans seem incapable of acknowledging the fact that Culpepper is not healthy, and that his health issues have taken away the best aspect of his game...his legs.

Would these Culpepper fans be willing to rest their favorite QB until he is healthy and play their first round drafted backup QB for awhile? NO, they would rather risk their favorite QB's career (make no mistake, the next significant injury to Daunte will likely end his career after his performance so far), and keep their former NFL starter on the bench backing up in case Daunte gets hurt??? He is hurt.

What really kills me is the argument against Harrington. History tells us that in Detroit, Harrington was unsuccessful, so he can't possibly succeed here, despite different players and a scheme designed to enhance his strengths instead of his weaknesses. These fans base their argument on Joey's history while ignoring Daunte's. They want Joey to start so he can lose, so their guy can finally come in and lose with more talent. Smell the irony?

Harrington fans aren't much better. Joey has had less success than Culpepper over the course of his career, yet people wanting Joey to start seem to think he will be the team's savior, and suddenly we will be back on track. It is an "anybody but Culpepper" deal for them. They are willing to ditch the history of both QB's just for the sake of change, but can't seem to grasp that this team doesn't have the talent to win overall, regardless of the QB behind the center. Still, many of them would also like to see Daunte lose so Joey can show him up and become the starter.

Guys, why can't you just be a fan of the TEAM? I care about winning. I don't care who is making us win, as long as we are getting it done. Daunte is not healthy...if he is our future, I don't want him risking unecessary injury at this point. Harrington will not light it up, but if he can provide even the slightest spark, it would be nice to see something positive. If he blows it, then we are doing the same thing we have been so far...losing. If all he got to do was throw it away before taking a sack, I'd be happy.

Let's get Culpepper healthy before indicting him as being finished, play the guy you brought in for just this scenario, and hope for the best. Maybe it will jar some of these millionare crybabies out of their sleep walking approach to playing. If not, we get a healthy "talented" QB in Daunte, moving into next season ready to start fresh behind what should be a revamped OL. Like Saban says, "If you keep doing things the same way, you can expect the same results"...it's time to make a change.

I want the team to win and if Harrington came in and won I would be fine with that.

That being said I know 100% in my mind that Culpepper is the QB that will give us the best chance to win, not because I think Joey sucks btw, I actually like Joey.

Very good post, agree with a lot of what you said. I want DC to be the QB of our future and I want him to turn it around in the worst way. BUT I sure wouldn't mind seeing Joey get a chance to come in and show us what he's got. As I've said ad-nauseum on this: Joey could turn into another Steve Young for us, and we should find out before we see him do it for some other team. I say give Daunte several more chances until we lose too many games to be in playoff contention, then if that happens, bench him, let him rest, and see what Joey's got. If Joey turns out to be good, we win, if we still trade him in a year, we STILL win because hid trade value goes up.

good post i like both QBs and i agree we should be fans of the TEAM....
but it appears Daunte's knee is going to hold up if it has the 1st qtr. of the season.... so no reason to even talk about the backup.

Uh, yeah. I guess if he rarely "lit it up" in Detroit, there is no way he can light it up here. That's as crazy as saying that Chad Pennington can be good with a bum arm, and playing behind that mess of a line he has in NY. Harrington MAY not light it up, but he is still a better bet than Daunte Cripplepepper right now. Let Joey prove himself to be a bad or average Dolphins QB before having him labeled. A lot of folks already have/had Daunte labeled as our next star QB. Look how that's turning out.

Good Post....I like both QB's as well.. I think that CPEP is a top tier QB, when he's healthy...When Harrington came over, I was pleased with that move too...I think he's a quality QB....Is he a star, I dunno...Not in Detroit, he wasn't...but you can see a big difference in someone, when they are actually happy playing where they are playing...He looked good in pre-season, but thats just that, pre-season...Getting back to CPEP. I think his knee is fine..but only to a certain extent..At this point, he cannot scramble like he's used to...And with the O-line being like it is right now, having that ability is critical...In saying all that. Will we see a change in QB? I dont think so, unless CPEP goes down...But if Harrington goes in, wether it too give CPEP more time or to see if Harrington can turn things around, I'm all for that too...Whatever decision Saban makes, will only be for the good of the team, and I support such a decision 100%....:dolphins:

I agree, nice post. I like the whole team and all i really care about is the win. if we win its a team win. And i'm on board for whoever helps get us that win, be it cpepp or harrington. I just hope one of em can help the team win.

I agree but part of the Dolphins losing isnt all culpeppers fault. In part I think only giving Ronnie Brown just 12 carries last week is. If we run , run and run some more then C-Pep or Joey will have better sucess. If anything our offense doesnt wake up til the last two minutes so why not keep it close, milk the clock and hopefully march down the field on the final drive for the win

I really dig this post, as I wholeheartedly agree with it. The TEAM is the important thing here, not whether some fantasy stats are generated or not. If someone's feelings get hurt because their favorite player doesn't get to start or have the spotlight on them, then they are paying attention to the wrong game. Go back to Madden (or my preferred game...RIP NFL2k5)!!!

:tantrum:

I used to pick on Joey when he was in Detroit, but seeing him play against the Panthers in preseason, changed my opinion of the guy. I look forward to seeing him turn his career around, but then I'm a sucker for underdog players. Probably why I pull for Marcus Vick (other than the fact that he and I share the same first name) and love Wes Welker's storybook career so far.

I don't think he gives us the best chance hurt though. If he stays in and takes all these sacks he will get hurt again.

Bingo! Nice post! I agree 100%.

Wrong, it's a terrible post. Most of us calling for Harrington are doing it because the DC experiment isn't working (for whatever reason). The season after 4 games is almost beyond repair.
Most of us are hoping that JH can provide a spark, and that's the key word, HOPING.
If JH is not the answer, then the answer is not on this roster and some big decisions need to be made in the offseason.
The posts calling for JH to start are more an indictment of DC than an endorsement of JH.

O-line protected him pretty well against Pittsburgh.
What you have seen beginning with the Buffalo game is that defensive coordinators have noticed that he is slow in making decisions. So what have they done? They have blitzed the heck out of him. They know he's not as mobile as he once was and if he can't make a quick decision, he is dead in the water.
Even the Texans who are not known as a blitzing team blitzed repeatedly and were successful. Part of the problem is the O-line, but if that were the only problem teams would trust their front 4 to get pressure and not feel the need to blitz so much.
In essence, they are attacking DC's weakness, which is his mind.

Make no mistake about it, I am a Dolphins fan first and foremost. I happen to think Daunte gives us a better option at QB than Harrington. I base this absolutely off of past performances. What else do we have to go on? Furthermore, I would like to know how this offense is built to the strengths of Harrington, because it seemsyou just threw that in there kind of blindly.

However, if Joey comes in and leads this team into the right direction, I have no problem supporting him. I don't hate Joey Harrington. Quite the opposite in fact, I want him to succeed seeing how he plays for my favorite team. It is just of my opinion that Daunte is still loads better than Joey.
