OL blame game: what % Grier, what % Lemuel Jeanpierre

50/50. Grier keeps drafting Guards, and LJP turns them into bench warmers.

One of the biggest problems is the lack of experience on the OL. The team as a whole has a big void in the leadership category but it is glaring on the OL.

80 pct Grier
20 pct LJP

You can’t make chicken salad out of chicken ****. Most of this crew is just fundamentally and athletically bad. And anyone that thinks Jackson is our future guard think again. He sucks in there too just not as obvious as at tackle.
Anyone know what the pff grades for our olinemen were after Giants game?

The O-line debacle is squarely on whoever decides to draft a guy, who's played his whole football career at one spot, with the intent on playing him anywhere else along the line.

How is LJP or any other O-line coach supposed to teach a guy a whole new position in one off-season or two?

Also, if a guy rates as a first-round player positionally, he doesn't commonly have that same grade elsewhere due mostly to not having the same experience level.

Draft LT's to play LT and RT's to play RT and so on.

This decision by Grier and Flores to go with four unproven young players with little to no experience starting next to an incompetent Jesse Davis combined with an inexperienced o-line coach is why they struggle to protect the QB, run the ball, and score points. The main reason they lost 7 games in a row is because Grier and Flores are idiots! Why would you NOT have several experienced, capable o-linemen to protect your young new QB?

LTs in college move to RT all the time. The best OL in college are usually playing LT to protect the QBs blindside.

That Eichenberg is significantly struggling at the position he played in college further hurts your argument…

Player who must step up: OL Liam Eichenberg

Eichenberg was one of the most highly touted offensive linemen in the 2021 rookie class, and while he has gained quite a bit of experience starting for the Dolphins this season, he has been the team's worst starter statistically. Since Week 9, the beginning of Miami's win streak, Eichenberg owns a 71.4% pass block win rate -- which ranks 162nd out of 164 qualified linemen. His season-long win rate of 76% ranks dead last among 170 qualified players. He is better than he has played and is not in danger of losing his starting job, but a strong finish would be inspiring before the Dolphins enter an offseason loaded with cash and desperate for improvement. -- Marcel Louis-Jacques

Eichenberg played RT vs Buffalo, LV, and Indy. He gave up 3 sacks and 11 combined pressures in those games.

Averages at RT
1 sack per game
3.67 pressures

Averages at LT
0.6 sacks per game
4 pressures

Whether u go by those stats or his PFF grades in the 3 games he played RT, at this point he hasn't really shown to be any more competent on the right side when given the chance to play there. At least by the numbers.

At this point we would need to trade up for Evan Neal. Linderbaum may also be out of reach. Not sure there's any other marquee talent on O-line. On the other side of the ball, we may luck out and still be able to get Jordan Davis or Javonte Wyatt. Wonder if we'd be able to get a guy like Petit-Frere on day 2.

A good coach can make garbage look a heck of a lot better, while drafting quality Linemen is at times like Russian Roulette.

75 Jeanpierre
25 Grier

...
You're right. How many of the top LT's are drafted to play anything else first?

I'm glad you brought up Eichenberg. He sucked at RT and LG BEFORE he sucked at LT. How much better would he be if he were given the chance to beat out Jackson first? Shouldn't have been too hard really. He'd likely be further along in development, wouldn't you say?

How many teams have as many players playing out of position as the Dolphins? A coincidence the line was terrible across the board too?

Please don't minimize the importance of continuity. Scheme, coaching, and position all matter.
