I has come to my attention that most of Mare's misses (5 out of 9) have been from 50+ yards, and it would be a good excuse given the fact that those are not automatic FG's...but Mare went 9-14 (64% success) from 2002-2005, from the same range...so the "those are not chip shots" is not a good excuse anymore...

Then I went into NFL.COM see link bellow, and looked at all the Kickers now in the league. I took the stats on all kickers that have attempted +50 FGs this year, and this is what I found...

24 kickers have attempted 53 field goals of 50+ yards...and 25 have been successful, which is about 47%...

Mare is at 1-6 on 50+ yds which is 17% success...

It's not the 50+ yarders that get us angry. It's when he blows the kicks from under 45.

Speak for yourself :) An accurate kick against the Jets to send us to OT could potentially have us in the drivers seat for the final wild card spot :(

Does he "make your toes tingle" as Mad Dog puts it, when he lines up for any FG?

Mare is trash. I can't stand seeing a 2 million dollar kicker line up for a 43 yard field goal and miss it with regularity.

That would've only sent us into overtime but I know what you're saying. When he lines up for a FG, I expect a miss.

At midfield with 1:30 left, I don't think it's Mare's fault for having to attempt a 52-54 yard FG.

Your right it was not his fault for attempting....maybe for misssing it though...:goof:

Well, when your considered an elite kicker, you are paid to make those kicks. No excuse for that miss.. Would you be saying the same thing if there was
0.3 on the clock in the Super Bowl, down by 2?
We don't excuse the QB when he throws a INT on a long pass play, just like we shouldn't excuse a missed kick with no pressure up the middle that has playoff implications.

Well said.

Mare also had last second game winners....

against Cleveland in 04, had a 51 yds with 12 secs left...

against Denver in 02, had a 53 yds with 11 secs left...

Its not like he has tremendous pressure that he never felt before, seems like his accuracy is in a funk...

I mean in the Minny game he kicked a Kick-Off right through the uprights...IMO he is not worth the $$$ he is earning...
