Matt Prater is the leading candidate to replace Jason Elam in Denver.
Prater is the first option, but the Broncos may show interest in veteran free agents Olindo Mare and John Carney or use one of their mid-to-late round picks on a kicker. Two of the top prospects are Wisconsin's Taylor Mehlhaff and Georgia's Brandon Coutu.

Ha Ha Ha! Going from Elam to Prater or Mare! And we thought we were in trouble! Looks like the wheels are starting to come off over in Denver. WR issues, linemen starting to get pretty old, ?? QB, now they have no decent kicker. Why does it seem like Denver might be looking at a 6-10 or 5-11 record this year?

They have a QB. Jay Culter really started to come on at the end last season. Hard for me to admit it, but Dever's roster is in way better shape than ours.

Sorry I have to disagree with you here. Denver's defense has probably become one of the worst defenses in the NFL....other than Champ Bailey you don't have much. San Diego destroyed the Broncos at Invesco Field and ran on them at will. I think our defense is better, deeper and younger. Shannihan has done a pretty poor job drafting players as of late, and they just fired Sundquist, their GM. I also don't see how Cutler is that much of an upgrade over Jake Plummer. I love hearing the Denver Broncos fans crying and whining here in Colorado. They went 7-9 last year...I doubt they even win 7 next year. :D

And the Dolphins will?

He said that the Broncos roster was in better shape than ours at the end of last year, and that is the truth. Whether the Broncos are good next year or not, they have probably found a "franchise QB" in Jay Cutler, which we haven't. They have an established head coach, which we haven't. They have a dependable and endless depth in the running game, which we dont. They have a solid secondary anchored by Champ Bailey which we dont.

Not that they should be making reservations for Tampa, especially with the Chargers being the better team in their own division, but the Broncos roster is better than the Dolphins and right now they are a better football team.

Mare couldnt kick for **** in a dome, and now he would be kicking in Denver of all places. That is some real funny **** right there.

The part of the Mare mystery is he always seems to make difficult kicks in difficult conditions but misses like the crucial 35 yarder on infield dirt. Besides i remember him kicking well some games in Denver, the Jay Fiedler game that we won comes to mind.

You're right, he couldn't kick in a friggin' dome last year and I don't see ANY change of scenery doing Mare good.

But for an outdoor stadium Mile High could be one of the better ones for kickers. Obviously the thinner air gains distance on their kicks, and relatively speaking the wind and cold usually isn't a major factor compared to places like Buffalo, NY, Chicago, Green Bay, KC, Foxborough, Cleveland.

Actually your wrong. Shany has done an excellent job drafting as of late. The last 2 years, he has nailed most of his picks. 2006 he got a Franchise QB in round 1. Schefler a good pass catching TE in round 2. Elvis Dumerville who had 12.5 sacks last year playing only on 3rd downs in round 3. Brandon Marshall in Round 4 (102 Receptions 1360 yards 7 TD's). Selvin Young as undrafted Rookie became the starter and a good season. Hamza Abdullah as the starting Saftey (undrafted rookie).

Last year he drafted a bunch of rookies showing promise, and started many games as rookies. Its still too early to tell.

I guess you have forgotten about Maurice Clarett in the THIRD round?....I could name many others but I won't.

Shannihan hasn't won anything since Elway retired. He and the Broncos are still living on their back-to-back titles.....10 years ago. I also would not get too excited about Cutler.....good arm, but he makes the same INT's that Jake did. They always have a decent running game,,,,it is part of their system, but I would not say the Broncos are a team on the rise.

You did say as of late right? To me that means the last 3 years. Shanny might not have won a SB in 10 years. But next to the Patriots, since he has been with the Broncos, no team has won more games.

Lets not fool ourselves. Mike is an excellent coach. Maybe not a great GM. But If he was available this offseason before the dolphins hired their coach, he would be number 1 on the list.
