I don't like the Jets at all, and I don't like quarterbacks who don't have the arm to throw deep. But with that said, and with the warning that I'm FAR from a guy who buys the company line, I'm pleased to report that Pennington's performance today was the best I'd seen ALL CAMP.

Woot!

I'm just glad we finally have someone with experience who will actually be able to lead the offense NOW... Henne or Beck may be able to do it in the future, but Beck clearly wasn't ready... I know there's a lot of Pennington haters on here, but at this point... I just want to see some points on the board... and not in a number easily divisible by 3.

Hey look at this!

Ricky Williams made a couple of VERY impressive runs during the session. On one there was a hole the size of a Honda Civic, which was opened up by Jake Long and a pulling Donald Thomas.

we may have found a pulling guard!

This is the difference between a QB who understands receivers pass routes (where they are supposed to be and how they are supposed to be run) and those who don't.
t seemed as if Pennington has been in this offense his entire career. Balls were being thrown before receivers made their breaks. Balls were placed either right in their hands, right over their heads for jump balls, or about to hit their helmet. Sometimes they didn't even see the ball until it was two feet in front of their face like the one Anthony Armstrong pulled in.

I'm sure this has a HUGE effect on the teams' psyche... When they see a QB come in like Penny did, and take over like he did.. Commanding the offense and showing his veteran poise like he did, I am sure it uplifts the team psychologically.. Penny is like a coach on the field for crying out loud..... The team probably feels like they can beat anyone.. The players in that offensive huddle must have had a spring to their step as they stepped out of the huddle ready to lineup. This is great.

ps--- And that's what they probably meant when they said the offense looked a lot "smoother" with Pennington today..

I wasnt real thrilled about gettin CP last week but im startin to get used to the idea of it. It was hard for me to think about rooting for a guy that played for a rival team like the Jets but im glad we have a guy that can lead the huddle and get things done. He might not get them done with big numbers or with big passes but if he gets the "W" im happy. It would be real nice to see some offense for a change tho, last season was one of the worst things ever, i knew what it was like to be a Lions fan. I miss goin to the playoffs every year like we did with Marino...

I found this write up about him from nydailynews from the game in which they beat us last year:

"It was a typical Pennington performance, as he won by being a good game manager. He passed for only 124 yards, a career low in a victory, but he was big in the clutch, hitting 8 of 9 passes on third down. It’s hard to believe, but none of his 15 completions traveled further than 17 yards in the air. He was like Tom Glavine, not throwing hard, but moving the ball around and keeping the other side off balance. He was masterful at the end of the first half, leading the hurry-up en route to a touchdown. His two touchdown throws, to Laveranues Coles and Chris Baker, showed pinpoint accuracy. He joked that it took eight seconds for him to run two yards on his touchdown. His spiking technique needs work. There’s no question that Kellen Clemens brings the vertical dimension to the offense, but the offense runs better with Pennington at the helm."

Pennington is like a Pontiac... nothing to get overly excited about (although I must say I've always been a fan since back when he was in college), but hey, he's reilable and as long as he doesn't break down, he'll always be a solid performer. Also, I think it's safe to say, what I bolded above has never been said about any of our QB's in a LONG time.

I have followed Penington since his Marshall days and have always enjoyed watching him play, except when he played against us when I would be yelling at him through the TV, however, when healthy this guy is good there is no if, ands or doubts about it. This guy is smart, accurate, cool and calm. He is a professional football they way a pro football playeris suppose to be. Works hard, stays out of trouble and makes fans love him or hate him, and like me both, till now. Dont have to hate him anymore. However, I will keep things in perspective and just hope for the best. Excited to him play, may drive down to Jacksonville this weekend.

The transition to Pennington will be easy b/c of his familiarity w/ the system. He has great anticipation and knows where guys are supposed to be on the field. If there's a mix up I'll go out on a l imb and say it would be the WR's fault.

im excited about this new regime, i cant wait for week 1...Penningtons never lost a game against Favre, hes goin for number 3.
