Omar Kelly: Miami plans to pursue La'el Collins IF he's cleared !

So will just about every other team in the league (except maybe the Cowboys).

wow. wouldnt that be something?

That would make this draft an A+

Somebody call his agent and tell him he will instantly start and we can redo his contract after year one with bonus money for prior service.

I plan to get something great if it is great. Nice report Omar:bobdole:

what is your next report? water is wet?

Memo to Tannenbaum: "get a talented player if he is available" :bobdole:

Seems like it would have been worth it IMO to have drafted him with a 5th round pick for that exact reason. If he's cleared! That way you kinda assure that he plays for you or nobody for a few seasons.

I understand he and is agent said they wouldn't sign if he wasn't drafted by at least the 3rd round. I would have called their bluff on that one.

Landry might make us a shoe in

What about other teams with LSU players all over the league...?

But it doesn't hurt. Offer him incentives or to rework his deal next year like someone else said. That would be AMAZING

Collins is represented by the same agency MT worked for before getting the Miami job

I agree, if we were going to take a chance, it would have been better to take him in the draft and work out a deal with him and his agent then, rather than waiting until after he's cleared and then having to compete against every other team and potentially get in a bidding war.

Landry played with him. Maybe any LSU player over the past 2 years. I can't think of many outside of Beckham

Yep, just saw this on Twitter. I'm guessing if he's cleared the Fins will get first crack at him. The key will be getting him on a contract that he wants to sign. He's a first round talent and might want to be paid as such. I'm going to guess that Tannenbaum probably already knows what his agents are looking for as far as a contract because of the connection. It does bode well for us, assuming Collins didn't have anything to do with the death of his ex and her unborn child.

If they offer him a conditional contract that pays him some where in the 2nd or 3rd round range, why wouldn't he take that offer?

There's a good chance he'll start here, and he will get a contract in the range where he was going to be drafted any way.
