I know I am one of the few who thinks Pouncey will be back sooner than later but Omar (yes, I question his football knowledge as well) had some great insight on how Pouncey's rehab is going.

Omar said that Pouncey was "killing it" during rehab today. He said that the rehab work he was doing looked very similar to that of Moreno from last week where the trainers where really trying to push him.

Omar said he doesn't think Pouncey will be on the PUP to start the season and that as of right now he puts it at a 30% chance that Pouncey will ready week 1. Which is still over a month away.

Something that I always keep in mind is that when Pouncey first had his surgery there was a reported 3 month time table before he returned to playing. With him having surgery June 23rd that would put him more than likely available to play week 3, Sept 21st, vs. the Chiefs, if his recovery went according to plan. Take into account that Pouncey was in great shape before the injury, which definitely shortens the rehab process, and there is probably a 30% chance that he is available for week 1.

Dumb question:

Does anyone think that the team's decision to sign Samson Satele had any impact on Pouncey's timetable for return? Because suddenly we're hearing that Pouncey wants to play week one.

It hasn't happened suddenly. Pouncey has said since his surgery that he doesn't want to miss any games.

Personally I don't want him to rush back. I'd rather him miss a few games than reinjure himself for being too hasty in his return.

More then likely a insurance policy that Pouncey does something stupid off the field!

I mean, we are talking a freaking hip here are we not? If he is running and jumping and moving all around, it would certainly seem he is making a speedy recovery. I think it was said that he had the less invasive surgeory which was globbed onto by Mando mainly that Pouncey would be out longer. When I hear mando report bad news, I think immediately that its never as bas as he makes it until other sources verify with direct language and not "could be" "may be" like word plays.

Pouncey has always stated, even before the signing of Satele, that he wanted to return by week 1. I don't know why posters on this site question is love to play football. Does he make some dumb lifestyle choices, yes, but his love for the game has always been there. Plus there is no way that Pouncey should be worried that Satele will take his job. They are in different worlds when it comes to the talent between the two.

I think the signing of Satele has to do more with the lack of talent in Pouncey's backups. First they tried to low ball Satele after Pouncey had surgery. After he balked at the contract the Fins gave the opportunity to Smith to play center but that failed miserably. To me Garner was never a true option in their eyes to man the position. They then went back and upped their offer to Satele and signed him. To me that says all I need to know about the talent of the backup center that was behind Pouncey.

Fair enough. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention, but rumblings from the team and reporters all sounded like "Pouncey might be out for the year." It certainly sounded like he would be out at least 8 weeks (the new IR-return designation?). Now we suddenly have Omar saying that Pouncey might be back by the bye, or even for week one???

Either Omar is reeeeeally stretching the realm of journalistic credibility here, or something changed.

Bigger question is....

Time tables given 3 months, 4 months, etc.... are those to begin rehab/full workouts or GAME READY time tables?

If we are talking GAME READY time tables, then sure Pouncey being in great shape before the surgery would cut down on that '3 months'.

But if we are talking surgery recovery to workout/rehab I don't see how someone heals a busted up hip post surgery faster than the next person.

If the surgery recovery time was 1 month to full mobility (Jun 23rd - July 23rd), then Pouncey has been up and rehab for about two weeks.

Everything that has been reported about the details of his injury and how much time he will miss is all speculation. The only thing we can take from the media is Pouncey's performance in rehab. By all reports i've read this training camp he seems to be progressing well. But I doubt Omar or any of the other guys at camp know medically what he should be doing at this stage in his rehabilitation.

I don't think anything with Pouncey has changed. The typical amount of time required to return to game day activities from his surgery is 3 months. If his rehab goes better than normal, why couldn't the timeline be cut down to 2 1/2 months, which would make him ready week one. IMO the band wagon journalists jumped on a Fins story the only way they know how. By making it sound as worse as they can.

Satele's contract is for up to $2M but only $250K guaranteed on a $1.25M salary. His incentives are $47K per game if he is on the 46 man roster. As per Barry Jackson. Based on that, he can be easily cut if Pouncey comes back for game #1

Here's the breakdown from over the cap, which differs a bit.

You can't believe everything you read in some news reports.

Player A goes in for a minor surgery and should be out one to two weeks.

Reporter "Hey doc if things go bad and player A gets an infection after the surgery whats the worse that could happen."
Doctor 'It's rare and highly unlikely but if the infection is bad enough there's a slight chance you would have to amputate."

Next Day's headline "Doctors Discussing Amputating Player A's Leg."

****, if Satele performs well in first few games I could see Brenner getting the chop before Satele does.

If Pouncey is ready to go early, that decision may have to be made on final cuts.
