On offense, reason for optimism?

I guess excitement needs to be tempered right now, since there's always optimism before the season starts. But I wonder, with Sherman our new OC, bringing with him the WCO, and with Philbin and Co. looking to use the strengths of our players (rookies included), do we have a legit reason for optimism that our offense won't stink this year (at the very least, not stink as much as it did last year)? Even without Tannehill taking a single snap, do you guys feel better about our offense at this point of the year compared with last year?

Reggie Bush had a solid season, and this year he might have even more impact if Sherman is able to move him around and create mismatches. He had almost 1,400 total yards and 7 TD's in 2011.

Sherman will most likely utilize our TE's, and hopefully we'll be able to convert more in the redzone. Fasano had 5 TD's last year, but only 32 receptions. We've got to utilize this position more. If Egnew can become a factor, and Charles Clay builds upon his performance from last year, we'll be able to put multiple TE's on the field at the same time and make teams think about how to defend us.

We don't have Brandon Marshall anymore, but if the ball is being spread out all over the field, we shouldn't miss our former All-Pro receiver. Hopefully guys like Hartline, Bess, and Gates will shine in the WCO (and I'm pulling for Cunningham and Marshall to make the team and force the coaching staff to play them). We may have a no-name receiving core, but we can still cause havoc.

Lamar Miller has the goods to do more damage on returns and give us better field position. Bess was stable, but we need more impact on returns.

If rookie Jonathan Martin can hold down the RT spot, our QB's won't be harrassed as often, and they'll have more time to make plays. And if Martin can hold his own, we'll have a pretty solid line of Long-Pouncey-Martin (we'll see about our guards), and our RB's should see bigger holes to run through.

I don't know, maybe we won't be that much improved over last year's offense (I'm trying to temper my excitement), but it sure does look like it can be.

What do you guys think?

I think the same thing I think every year, I'll believe it when I see it. I'm not the type who gets carried away with preseason/OTA/training camp hype, I personally don't give a **** about any of it. When they start playing games that matter, that's when I start to form my opinions. One thing I do know, this team offensively SHOULD look a lot different than last years, time will tell whether or not it will be successful in year one of its implementation though.

With the changes we've made to both the system and the coaching staff, and with the players we brought in through the draft, I just sense that we will take a step forward and become better than we were last year. Maybe it might just be a small step forward, but I don't think its stepping out too far to say we're going to see mprovement.

I'm hoping to see the return of a proper screen game. With Bush and Lamar Miller, those are two guys that can take to the house on any play. Get those guys the ball in space!

I am feeling the new coaching staff and the renewed interest in truly scoring points. If you look at some of the draft picks, they got in the end zone. Keep seeing that stat about Tannehills goal line success. That has been the killer of this team for the past five years or so. We can't get in the endzone enough, and really that is what it is all about.

If you had to weigh it on a scale, does a good offensive system make average players shine, or do star players make an average system shine?

What I'm getting to is, can guys like Hartline and Bess shine if they play in a good system like the WCO? Can our passing offense run like a well oiled machine without probowl receivers?

Its going to be interesting to see if our receivers can step up.
