So i was having a discussion with a buddy of mine on wether teams with lower draft picks should trade for a proven player or take their chances drafting a player of the same position of need. In our case it would be WR since everyone here knows its a major need. So i did some research and pulled up every WR taken in the 1st/2nd rd. From what i found, imo less then 15% of the WR taken in the 1st rd were worth it, or ended up being true #1s. The 2nd rd had a lot more WR producing for their teams, and a lot of the players either got cut, or are no longer with the team for what ever reason.

To be 100% honest, the best WRs were taken in rd 2. Most of the 1st WRs were bust. Very few are either still playing in the NFL, or True #1s that everyone covets. I know its hard to let a 1st pick go, but think about just the Dolphins WRs, Bess and Camarillo were UNDRAFTED!! Hartline was a 4th rd pick, and Ginn of course was a 1st and a BUST!!! Bro there is no reason to even consider this. if we have a low pick in the 1st rd, and there is no one we want badly i say swing a trade for a stud #1.....without a doubt.

Well in a uncapped year honestly the only way we will pick up a stud WR is a trade. That said I don't see this FO doing that, so we will most likely sign a vet that a team lets go. Which isn't a bad thing if we can get 2-3yrs of production out of a guy like Steve Smith, Santana Moss, Chris Chambers then it is better then what we have. Plus it will help develop Henne and increase BEss, Cam and HArtline getting open.

ya i highly doubt we will be making any trades, but i was just curious as to what people think. is it worst to take a risk on a unproven rookie who could have had an amazing college carrer, but mount to Ted "downy" Ginn, or a proven NFL starting WR who might be in his mid 20's and still full of potential. I mean i would obviously like to make a trade for a b.marshall, or v.jackson opposed to risking another bust and setting us back another yr or so. regardless of what we want or think Ginn is on this team and will be until we trade him, or his contract is up. unless like mentioned above, we go into the uncapped yr where releasing a Ginny wont hurt the team as much. I was also thinking of the possiblities of trading Ginn and a lower pick such as 3/4th for a vet like S.Moss or S.Smith. A team looking to rebuild and a vet who wants no part of a team rebuilding such as the Redskins, Browns, Bills, Bucs, ect...we can use some of their vet WRs who might be looking for a fresh start on a team with more of a chance to make the playoffs and compete for a supber bowl...who knows...

Well Lee Evans can become a free agent if Buffalo doesn't protect him. Really in this draft there are no receivers worth a first round pick.

Benn- Has one TD this year and if he can't get open and score against Indiana, North Western, Purdue, Mich St etc I just don't see how he will do it in the NFL.

Bryant- We this was suppose to be the year he put it together and showed he was beyond the drop problem. Before his suspension his numbers were down and his drops were up. Besides I think the bad decision surrounding dinner with Deion raises serious concerns. I know first hand how much coaches and compliance cordinators stress the NCAA rules, they also stress if you have any doubt don't do it or ask us.

Gilyard- Could very well be our DeShawn Jackson, but once again I think our FO just won't draft a WR that high. Which is a shame because this kid really is a explosive threat to score from any where on the field. No to mention he is put together better Jackson or Ginn.

Studying Parcell's draft history I really think WR is a position that leaves a bitter taste in Dolphin fans mouthes!

It's very risky trading a high pick for what looks like a sure-playmaker.

Ask Cowboy fans how they feel about giving up a 1st and a 3rd for Roy E. Williams.

I've always been a proponent of trading a high draft pick for a proven playmaker. Draft picks are just too risky when you know you can get the same position of need filled with an NFL stud. I'd trade our 1st and 3rd for Boldin, Marshall, or Jackson. I just don't understand why draft picks are so coveted. Of course we don't want to trade away our whole draft and we need to develop young players, but I'm talking about one big move by our front office every 3-4 years. When was the last BIG move this franchise made? I hope we do it this offseason.

Well, due to the fact that MIA is going to need to draft Porter's replacement, I think that our 1st round pick will be spoken for, so to speak...

NOt to mention Gibril Wilson was a bust at FS and we need a quicker ILB to replace Akin Ayodele

And all that is assuming we are able to find a NT, TE, and WR via FA. Damn, keeps looking like we're still 2 years away!!! AAAaaaaahhhhh!!! Hopefully, we get lucky this offseason.

Look at the impact of these proven "big time" receivers being traded to new teams. The success rate isn't that high and the team that get the picks usually ends up ahead. Keep the picks and build through the draft, if we can sign a free agent upgrade without giving up the picks go for it. Those lost picks always hurt more in the long run.

Yeah, thinking like that would've kept Bilicheat from aquire Moss though...you can't stay close minded. You must know when to "risk" and take a chance. Marshall is worth it, if you ask me...

Randy Moss, a future HOFer was traded for a 4th round pick, not a 1st and 3rd rounder. So, totally different than multiple first day picks for a "good" receiver. We still have plenty of holes that need to be addressed, so those picks are crucial for our future. I would always be pretty conservative about giving them up for one "diva" receiver.

You didn't mention which pick. I was refering to your statement about "big time recievers being traded....the teams with the picks ends up on top.." that's all.

Well guys obviously there are both pros and cons to trading to acquire a play maker. I for one don't think it will happen, if it were to happen it would have happened on draft day when Arizona dropped their demand for Boldin down to a second rd pick. Parcells has a long documented history of not making trades and not bringing in play makers, and honestly this is starting to concern me. I think this is a main reason he has had very little post season success since the free agency salary cap era. This team needs a home run hitter, I don't care how we get it as long as we get it. However I have my doubts we will, I hope I am wrong!
