First off let me start by saying, that I was dissapointed that we did not make too many moves in the FA thus far, and I may have overreacted quite a bit about it. But let me share what I have come to understand.
Players get better, and form team chemistry..
Although our FO may have been active in last years FA period, that was only necessary because we had many many holes that needed filled. But the main emphasis of this team is building through the draft. By drafting starters, and signing low key role-players we are able to establish our own tone. We have our own players, and these players are able to form chemistry and become what the Miami Dolphins will become.
If you happened to notice, our team became progressively better as the season unfolded. This is simply because our young guys ajusted to the nfl, and the team basically got used to playing with one another. Also people may say (and I have said the same) that we are basically the same team as last year. And although personel-wise we are, you have to keep in mind that these certain players (draft picks: langford, long, merling, etc) do get better. If we were able to produce 6 starters (long, langford, merling, thomas, bess, and carpenter) in one draft, I conclude that we are well on our way to creating an original Miami Dolphins.
You also have to keep in mind that we have a lot of draft picks in this years draft. Therefore we will be adding more young playmakers that will make up the components of what the Miami Dolphins represent.
So in recap...Are we the same team as last year?
No, because:
1) Our players form chemistry
2) Our players get better and mature
3) We did add role playing free agents
4) We will add more starters via draft
So fear not my friends, this FO knows their stuff
