Hey all you arm chair GMs. I think you have to trust that the FO has a better handle on the situation than any of us do. They have more information on what our options are as well as what DC has or hasn't done. I for one was hoping for Brees. He didn't cost a draft pick and I thought (when healthy) he was an ideal QB type. Saban chose DC and I supported that choice.
You can't look back at what could have been. You also can't look back on what something cost you. IT DOESN'T MATTER. In accounting terms this is called SUNK COSTS. All that matter is what is the current value regardless of what you paid for it. If any of you have invested in stocks, you don't hang onto a stock just because it went down and you paid more for it. If you should sell it, then it doesn't matter what you paid. The same thing applies to players.
The FO (and coaches) have now had some time to be around DC. They have had some game situations and the ability to talk strategy with him. They have seen what he could do and what he couldn't. Look Carson Palmer had a pretty serious knee injury as well. He came back quicker than DC and was successful. Why? Because he must have some qualities that DC doesn't. I can understand why the FO would be concerned. In the NFL every year is important and you don't have time to hope that things work.
I don't think we are going to get much for DC at this point. My understanding is that whether we keep DC or cut him, there won't be much of a salary cap hit. If I was GM (my turn to be armchair QB and I am hoping they are thinking this), I would do one of two things:
One, offer DC to be a free agent if he returns the proration of his signing bonus. Or two, tell him he will be on the team this year, but will be put on the injured reserve. Next year, his value will be higher assuming he has fully healed. Some team that had their QB go down in flames will be interested.
However, whatever the FO decides to do, I will support them. Let's stop all this bickering and realize that DC is not going to play for the dolphins. We need to get behind our QB and support our team.
