I can understand the opinion on this board that John Beck should be given a chance to succeed, prove himself, etc. but what is laughable is when people suggest we need to give John Beck a shot just because we used a 2nd round pick on him last year.

The old guard was fired in large part due to their draft day ineptitude, and if Parcells, Sparano and company don't feel John Beck can cut it in the NFL they won't think twice to draft Matt Ryan or take other measures to address the QB situation.

This team is starting from scratch. The mistakes made by Mueller and company will be considered sunk costs, and one of those sunk costs might be John Beck.

It was extremely hard to judge Beck last season because blocking was atrocious and he was not getting any support from the surrounding cast. Put Beck behind a good o-line and give him some weapons and see how he does.

First of all, I don't see how the last draft was inept.

We got a starting center who actually very well despite the fact he was a rookie, a wide receiver who showed what he could do when he clicks with a quarterback, a utility player with a lot of speed, a fullback who showed he can be a great lead blocker when he's on his game, and a good punter who, unfortunately, plays with the worst ST coverage unit Miami (recent) history. That was just the first year.

And second of all, new regime or not, one has to consider where a player was drafted when thinking about what to do with a player. After all, if I was new GM/VP/Coach, I'd be thinking "Hey, they spent a high pick on this player.... let's see what he has going for him."

The last regime (Cameron/Mueller) was only here for 1 Draft! How could they have been fired for draft ineptitude? I think maybe they were fired for going 1-15 and spending a bunch of money on Joey Porter. JMO.

My opinion is I would like to see what Beck really has. There is no way anyone can say that last year was a true indication of what he will be in the NFL.
On the other hand if Tony and the gang feel he is'nt the right person for the job,the right person will be developed, signed, drafted etc.
My confidence is in their hands now, change will be slow.Let's hope and pray for the right choices to be made.

I never said last year's draft was inept. I agree for the most part that the picks you mentioned were good picks.

In regards to your last statement, they will do their due dilligence to evaluate John Beck's talent I'm sure. But if they come to the conclusion that John Beck isn't what they're looking for in an NFL QB, then the fact that Miami spent a high pick on him will mean nothing. It will be a sunk cost.

Beck should be given a shot to show what he can do. Matt Ryan first and foremost suck! If Beck doesn;t cut we would be in position next year to get a QB. I wouldn't mind having a Chase Daniel as my franshise QB and don't give he doesn't fit the parcells prototype. If he is good then he will play.

Link? Oh, you're just throwing up unsupported opinions.

Nothing you've stated is backed up by facts. Indeed, it would have been exceptionally easy for the new front office to go along with the excuse of "oh, some other guys are at fault" for the draft last year. However, they've made all the statement they needed to make by public statements of support, private phone calls, and going so far as to encourage and assist Beck's development in every way. This doesn't mean that they won't take additional measures at the QB position by either bringing in a vet or drafting another quarterback in later rounds, but everything the organization has done thus far in regards to Beck is active investment, not a sunk cost. They want him to succeed as our QB every bit as much as the fans do, and they're doing everything they can to put him in that position.

This is a Piss Fight - you are doing the same thing..., wake up there are no facts on Beck..., every thing looks pretty subjective at this point...

And what do you expect the brass to do with a second round draft choice (investment) throw him under the bus...? Of course they are trying to squeeze every ounce of ability, character, moxie out of a guy..., they would be stupid not to..., thety won't however pull a Cameron and "hide" the poor guy for fear of scrutiny...

this logic is so dumb...

who cares who drafted anyone... a new regime wants GOOD players, and good young players, Beck can be that... its not like they will look at him and say, we didn't draft him, **** him lets get rid of him... he'll come and battle for the starting job, if he wins it, he wins it... if he loses it he loses it... it will have NOTHING to do with who drafted him...

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that it only took one season to decide if last years draft was a failure or not. I didn't know people can tell if a QB is good or bad in just three games. that's amazing!!!! If Parcells and company thinks Beck is not good enough to be a starter for this team it would be off of the footage from college and not last seasons game film, because quite frankly.... there just isn't enough of it to make an educated decision.

We agree..., if beck should not progress early on he being Beck will hold the clipboard until he gets his next shot...

I'm sorry. I didn't get the memo that expressing opinions on message boards wasn't allowed anymore.

When I refer to John Beck as a sunk cost, I'm not referring to so much Beck as the sunk cost, but the pick spent on him. Even if the Dolphins do seek to go a different direction at QB, of course they will continue to invest in John Becks development either to trade him or as a backup QB.

As far as your proof, when Miami looks very seriously at Matt Ryan over the next few months, that should be all the proof you need that Parcells, Ireland, and Sparano don't care what draft pick we used on John Beck last year.
