I know that Ross appears fiercely, strangely loyal to Philbin, but I truly believe this is the year that Ross will make changes if things go awry. If they start 1-3, that is already awry given the schedule ahead. The BYE is the best time to make changes.

Either Philbin will get replaced by Lazor, or Ross will force Philbin to replace Coyle with someone else on the staff. I feel that Tannenbaum holds the cards here. I've never felt he has been that impressed by Philbin, even though he said all the right things in the offseason. He will get in Ross's ear if Suh continues to be wasted and the team is already in dangerous straits in the first quarter of the season.

At 1-3, the Dolphins would already be on the verge of extinction with an 0-3 record in AFC and a 0-2 hole in the division with the Pats on the horizon. Philbin has a horrendous division record so it's unlikely that would somehow change later in the season.

Ross will be sufficiently pissed off with this start given that it will impact his late slate of home games. His shiny new stadium will be desolate later in the season with Philbin and Coyle heading a sinking ship... Ross has become increasingly frustrated with losing and I think a start like 1-3 would finally get him riled up enough to make the changes we all have craved for so long...

I thought Ross didn't like making coach changes in the season? If that is the case I think we are stuck with Philban for the year.

I've said it before ... Tannenbaum is the hammer.

I could see it...depends how much the embarrassment forces Ross' hand. I agree that Tannenbaum is not a big Philbin fan. The question is whether there's any need to make small changes this season or just let the train wreck go all the way and get us a higher draft pick. Tannenbaum definitely has a plan in place for next year (whether it's a good plan is debatable).

I think Joe gets the whole season.

They already know who their next coach is going to be if this doesn't work out, and he is NOT in demand elsewhere.

Eric Mangini

Eric Mangini

I keep seeing his name. Is it only speculated because Tannenbaum once hired him or is there a legitimate source indicating that?

Regardless, I have no reason to place any faith in Ross's ability to find a good replacement for Philbin, not that that is any reason to keep Philbin around.

mike and eric built the teams that sanchez took to the afc title game twice, i'm not sure eric is the worst choice.

After reading this article, if you don't think Eric Mangini is a putz who should never be put in charge of a pro football team, I don't know what to tell you.

1. Ross hired him as an adviser previously.
2. He has a good relationship with Tannenbaum and Aponte.
3. Armando seems to think it's likely. Mando gonna Mando, but he does know people in the building.

So... yeah.

I don't see it happening mid-season. I just don't. :idk:

Besides ... My simple arse still believes we'll start 3-1 (enter goofy, delusional, bump-must-be-drunk-already joke here)

No, but he may form a committee to decide if a task force is required to look into the possibility of changing the carpets....
